If an NRL player was going to convert....

If an NRL player was going to convert, who would it be?

I would presume it would be a defender

This is a genuine question, I only know two NRL players, one is Wally Lewis and the other isn't

    Curious on the 'type'
You don't ban those who supported your opponent, you make them wallow in their loserdom by covering your victory! You sit them in the front row. You give them a hat! Toby Ziegler

As far as I get it, they all play defence and offence (are they spelt right?).
The ball goes forward for six tackles then it gets handed over to the other side for six tackles then it goes back and forth.
Occasionally there is a scrum where there is no advantage anymore in that the ball gets fed into the back line ... rather than in the middle and let them fight it out like they did in the good in the old days.

The only skills they have for our game is tackling.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

I noted today there are rumours another high profile NRL player may convert. When you look at them though it is hard to imagine they would have the skills, which is probably why no one really tries

Just curious if there is a likely player, sounds unlikely

I heard that rumour too - apparently a Sydney based player. Greg Inglis (not a Sydney based player) has the athleticism to be a very good AFL player - probably a very good sportsman in ant field (and no need for anyone to bring up off field allegations - just saying he is a very good footballer).

Ian Roberts was a rugby league player who converted (this is one of those "who would you turn gay for" questions isn't it?)
CIA Agent to Policeman: "Have you ever had anti-terrorist training?"

Given the muted response though seems there aren't a lot of NRL players to get excited about as NRL players, which is the difference in sports really agility vs power

You should probably wait more than two hours before drawing conclusions!

It would clearly be a back - and Jarryd Hayne, Billy Slater and Greg Inglis would be stars in most sports. I've heard AFL people say Andrew Johns would have made a perfect AFL midfielder.

The RL Ian Roberts was one of the toughest players to grace the game and 'came out' whilst still playing.

He is also well remembered for beating Keiran Jack's old man to a pulp on the field one day. It ended in the courts.

Andrew Johns had the smarts to be a good in and under midfielder. The difference between AFL and NRL is the fitness level required. A NRL player at peak fitnes, would be good for about 10 minutes of top grade AFL, so straight away were talking about a 90% increase in fitness. If Mike Hunt starts training now, in three or four pre seasons he should be ready. Inglis is taller, and could be a KPP, whereas Hunt is going to tried out as a midfielder or at best a running halfback. These guys are usually talented at most sports involving a ball (or two), so I don't think the skills will be that big a problem, they'll learn them in the time it takes to ge fit enough to play. Billy later would make a midfielder in the Chris Judd vein, hard to tackle, same as Hayne. Slater is faster, but the ability to run the distance consistantly over 100 minutes? Big question

Slight exaggeration. Read an interview in relation to Hunt with a fitness expert and he didn't think it would be much of an issue. As he builds endurance he'll naturally drop a lot of bulk, which will help his running, plus professional athletes are all good trainers and know what's required.
