OUT: 8 (6 retirees, plus Jolly and Buchanan)
IN: 4 (Seaby, Mumford, Hawks boys)
Assuming we put two players on the veterans list to replace Leo and Magic, that leaves us with 4 spots to fill.
Assuming Thornton and Orreal (who apparently has been offered a 2-year senior list contract) are elevated (I reckon Pyke will be kept a rookie and play good minutes in the ressies), that's 2 list spots available. We just traded in pick 55, so it would seem that we intend to use it, meaning we want to use 5 picks in total. If we leave room for the PSD, that means leaving 6 spots empty for the draft period.
So, we have to delist 4 more players. Braba should be one. Playfair another. The Longmire report on DOK seemed encouraging, and he showed flashes of good form in the ressies this year, so I'd say he's safe. Schmidt and Laidlaw got far less encouraging reviews (not based on ability, but simply fitness). If I was a betting man, I'd put money on Braba, Henry, Schmidt and Laidlaw being the ones that go. If nobody we like is available in the PSD (Luke Ball, for example), we may redraft Laidlaw or Schmidt, but I doubt it. A real pity, I reckon they could have been something.Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!Comment

Are RP and I the only ones that think that Ablett should be delisted?Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

Yes, with all that experience going out, Ablett's greatest asset is the number of games under his belt. He doesn't have a guaranteed spot in the 22, but will offer depth to the squad.Comment

Hell know!! If I see him grab the ball in both hands and hold it all the way down when he is tackled and rightly pinged for HTB I will go crazy. He is slow and a poor decision maker. He used to be a booming kick but that also seems to have faded. Definately needs a DNA test!Comment

I'm borderline, with the number of movements off the list he's probably safe for 1 more year. He'd want to pull something special out in 2010 though as I dont really rate him
I highly doubt Orreal will be promoted from the rookie list when he is 5th in line for a ruck spotComment

I agree that Braba, Henry and Laidlaw MAY go, but Schmidt may be given a bit more or as you said redrafted. Braba is the most likely to go. Henry perhaps but he is a big seasoned unit so perhaps not. Laidlaw's body is not going to let him play. Schmidt has all the right stuff, and fantastic attitude but.....don't know. And I am sick of Luke being offered a back door by all and sundry (not me though, I love the bloke). They can't all be guns and I think he is a far better player than the mob give him credit for.
What about Gilchrist? I think he is a keeper for the next year at least. And there is Nat Gordon too. Wait and see......I thought it was all over and then we get the PSD. Aagghh....If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

Quick question. You need to be 30 as at September 30 of the current season to be placed on the veterans list. Goodes is 30 as at January 8 2010. Is that old enough to be placed on the veteran's list as I am not sure which season you are in on September 30?

You have to turn (or be over) 30 in the season in which you are nominated a a veteran and have completed 10 seasons on the list. So Goodes (and Jude and Kirk) are eligible for 2010.Comment

You don't ban those who supported your opponent, you make them wallow in their loserdom by covering your victory! You sit them in the front row. You give them a hat! Toby ZieglerComment

We're -4 players at the moment from last year's list, assuming they choose to keep the senior list at 40 by nominating two more veterans to replace Leapin' and Crouchy.
From there it depends on how many - if any - rookie elevations and how many picks they intend to use. Can't see them drafting fewer than 3. Would be surprised with more than 5 (excluding rookie draft). Do they think there might be anyone worth it in the PSD? Slim pickings at the moment but that could change.
So probably anywhere from 0 - 4.
Much will depend, presumably, on the state of Playfair's hamstrings and Schmidt's knee. It would be a shame to see Schmidt go but we've not really lost anyone much from the midfield compared to last year (given Crouch didn't play much and Fosdike not at all. Maybe you could argue the midfeld has lost Goodes to the forward line but I still think he will spend sometime on-ball, especially if Playfair is available and/or Johnston shows anything).
He's now got Kennedy and McGlynn to compete with for a spot, together with Hannebury who is ahead of where he was expected to be 10 months ago. Not to mention Shaw and/or Mattner who could spend more time in the middle, especially if Malceski can rediscover his mojo.Comment

Apparently he was offered a 2 year deal. Poster on BF reported it straight from the horse's mouth.Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!Comment
