As down as some people are on the Canberra comp, they don't generally give out 8 goals to each player just for trying, Royal Show-style. I'd call that playing.

Regardless of any other shenanigans, I'd call promoting Thornton to senior list near enough to a certainty.

Probably explored in another thread, but what exactly is the nouvelle Swans obsession with having 13 ruckmen on our list?

I've been pondering the same thing. Roosy certainly loves talls.

The obvious reason is our stoppage-driven style needs at least one decent tap ruckman. We play a very physical game and I think Roos believes we need to outmuscle our opponents. Plus a tall who can drift forward is worth maybe an extra goal a game.

Speaking of the coach, this just in on delistings:

Roos said his club had had a ''brief discussion'' yesterday about which players were likely to be delisted from the Swans, and he expected that decision to be made in the ''next couple of weeks''.

Assuming Playfair is fit, he's got to stay. Name me the present tall forwards for Sydney beyond Jesse White?

              Lewis Johnstone, Adam Goodes.

              I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

I rest my case. Johnstone is hardly counts.

Playfair is rubbish. We don't need him. Johnston, Goodes, and White is all we need. Plus we might even draft another forward. I'd rather have Johnston over Playfair (and I remind you that Johnston is an excellent mark). Plus we cant have 4 tall forwards, so yes delist playfair.

And expect Seaby and Currie to play forward a bit next season as well.

How many games have you actually seen Johnston play? Indeed how many games has Johnston even played full stop in the past 12 months?

He is a gangling 18 year old who has spent most of the past 6 months with his foot in a moonboot.

Sure, we are all entitled to hope he has the talent and application to eventually become a good senior level AFL forward but at this stage we really don't know whether he will or not. Ditto any other tall teenager we draft next month.

Playfair isn't rubbish. He has proven he can make a reasonable contribution at senior AFL level. It just comes down to whether his injuries will prevent him ever doing so again on a consistent basis.

I'm in the Playfair camp. He may look like a slow, slightly dazzled, never has-been who couldn't kick but he was reliable enough in his role when he played. He'll come good eventually and give the younger players the opportunity to develop into the big league.

I'm more than happy for Playfair to be retained. Good depth player.

Playfair was ordinary at best when fit ( soft at it, slow, a lousy kick) ....He has no obvious upside from what we've already seen.
I don't understand how anyone could think that, after a year out of the game, with very dodgy hamstings, he should be taking up a place on the list...

I'd much prefer to keep Laidlaw, who also has injury issues but he's also got plenty of upside if he can get his body right...same goes for Schmidt. Even Dok... these guys are virtually untested at AFL level and have potentual.
Nothing personal, but Playfair has got to be the first to go...followed by Braba.
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MT
