Since the 2008 November draft, we've lost over 1600 games experience, 8 premiership players (plus another couple of international rookies, for what they're worth), 2 co-captains, a club games record holder, etc.
Has there been a bigger mass-exodus of talent in our history? I suppose there might have been in 1981-2 but at least we didn't lose any premiership players. In AFL history?? Fitzroy lost all but 6 players... but the club was essentially consumed by the Bears. University folded entirely. In sporting history?! Ok, the Bulls pretty much the entire starting line-up and half the bench post Jordan (on his second exit).
Losing Jolly, O'Loughlin, Hall, Crouch, Barry, Fosdike, Buchanan, Kennelly... sure, all (bar Jolly) beyond their prime... and some probably wouldn't have played anyway even had they wanted to go on... but that's still a lot to lose. And I would speculate that if we'd lost the best 7 of those guys, the eigth (no matter how old, or injury-riddled) would probably have got a spot in our top 22. I'm not saying that any of our departed should have gone on (or stayed in the cases of Darren & Monty). But looking at our departed players is a bit of a shock to the system, trying to see how they can be replaced... or how long it will take. It will be a true test for John Longmire.

and I'm aware that its easy for me to make these calls in hindsight but in a nutshell:
