Mumford or Seaby to start most games ?

    hhhmmm

tough one and need to see more of both but gut feeling is Seaby with his 100 games under his belt at only 25yrs of age will be hard to beat for teh starting possie

Yet they have secured Mumford for 4 years.....

Does anyone know how long Seaby signed for ?

Mumford for me. Seaby will be the 2nd ruckman and do some work in the forward line.

Can't see Mumford doing anything else other than the main ruck duties in 2010.

Don't think Geelong used Mumford up forward much at all and theirs is one forward line that could have used an extra tall at stages during this season.

What a B-grade ruck division we have.

      Seaby - West coast hack.
Mumford - 3rd ruckman at Geelong.
      Backup: Pike - rubgy player.

The only upside is Mummy is young, and might improve.

Why is it EVERY SINGLE YEAR (cept maybe 1 or 2) we trade for ruckmen.

I am taking the more positive angle Barry. Seaby has been second fiddle to Cox his whole career and I think it was Robbo, West Aussie, who said he was very good in the WAFL in 2009. I am happy with the punt on him. Geelong were filthy with Mumford leaving because he was poised to take over from Ottens down the track. I think they thought he would stay with the premier club for peanuts. I can't believe they rate upgraded Blake's contract (genuine spud) and left him with the scraps.

On so called B grade rucks, it could be argued that most clubs don't have A grade divisons. Some have a very good ruckman but no backup.

If you'd told me six weeks ago we were going to lose Jolly and still be competitive in the rucks next year I wouldn't have believed you.

The mail on Seaby seems OK, and according to some Mumford wrapped up Jolly when we played the Cats. The fact that Geelong were desperate for him to stay is telling.

Plus, we've got Pike, Orreal and Currie in various stages of readiness. I reckon we're pretty set for talls.

I can't believe some swans fans, writing off players before they have even trained for the club, let alone played a game. I understand where you are coming from, but its an unknown proporsition how the players will go together. The criticism of Pyke is fair enough, but even he has enough potential to say that he could be more then useful soon for us.

Would be more inclined to think Seaby be first choice, purely based on his career with the illeagls where he was used as a backup to Cox.
Mumford however was third in line at the Cats and still developing.

wow $333k pa ?? for Seaby

and some are worried about Bradshaw on the same deal of $1mill for 3yrs ?

I reckon the pair of them will be in our 22 players for every game that they're available. Why else would the club spend the money?

                    Settle, petal.
Seaby is far from a hack.
Plenty of Geelong fans would have let Blake go in order to keep Mumford.
And who knows what the astonishing Pyke might do this year?
                    Enjoy the ride.

Seaby has really had the run of bad luck at the eagles playing back up to both Gardiner and Cox both AA...

Like Jolly behind white just needed the opp.
He played the eagles premiership in 06 and he and cox towelled up our boys and was a deciding factor in us not having 2 ruckmen and going back to back.
There is no doubt if ball had stayed or we had got everitt for 06 we would ahve won..

i am thinking seaby will start esp earlier in the season and you may see mummy start late in the year if he does well.

pull your head in, seeing as though you know what you are talking about:

West Coast Hack? Bit strong, from what I have seen of his past 4 seasons he has been serviceable at worst.
Well observed Mumford was 3rd ruck at Geelong. Because he is 23 and a rookie listed player!
PYKE was a rugby player, is an experiment. Looking to be at the very least a handy tap ruckman.

You are also forgetting Dan Currie, who injury finally permitting will get a game, and a chance to show his stuff.

                            So what are your thoughts?

At the time Jolly wanted out, White was the premier ruckman of the league. And they throught Jarmar would come good.

Jolly was a punt by us, that came off in spades.

Seaby's best is behind him, and if anyone can point me towards Seaby's best season, please let me know. He's always been 2nd fiddle, and for a reason.

It was widely ackowleged at Geelong that they werent going to win a flag in 2009 unless Ottens got back into the side. Their ruck division is Ottens, then a couple of backup hacks in Blake and Mumford. Even then they rated Blake better because they offered him the better deal.

And although Pike is keen, he's still a long way off being useful, and time is not on his side.

Like I said, the only up side is Mumford is young and improvement is possible. We certainly wont win a flag with this ruck division in the next 2-3 years.
