Could that be Dave Missen?

Have a look at this year. Tim Schmidt retired prematurely, Laidlaw and BBB?s dud DOK delisted, Currie and Playfair crippled all year. Laidlaw is genuine AFL standard, now on the scrap heap. How would DOK have gone if he had not lost two seasons through injury? All victims of soft tissue injuries that have thus far either wrecked their careers or stopped them from showing their real worth to our club. I am really worried about Dan ? he is a wonderful young man and has the ability to be anything , but the few games he played in the ressies this year he ran around looking like a hobbled duck. Another year like this one could kill his career.
I know that some guys simply do not have the body to stand up to our game and some lack the application, but I also have a suspicion that the Swans failure rate is getting above what could be reasonably expected. I don?t subscribe to any thought of bad luck ? when we had those injury free years from 04 to 06 opposition fans said good luck, but we said good management.
The best thing Colless could do for our club is use his corporate muscle to get Mrs Missen a gig at a top Sydney girls school ? and thus get Dave back. Injury management, especially of our young players is a huge issue. My hope for 2010 is that the Swans get it right.

I felt that there was a possibility of exactly what you expressed above so accurately, I just tried to convince myself that surely we could, should, would replace Dave.

How come with all the resources we have, we can't get someone as good if not better than Mr Misson? What was the magic that he possessed that we just can't reproduce?

You are so correct Royboy that I hope that we put out the feelers to accompany our newish team of players to make sure our best group can turn up all season as well as at the pointy end.

It is a real worry that so many of the young players of the past 3 or so drafts have played so little football because of injury of one kind or another. I wonder if they are pushing themselves or are being pushed in training too hard at too young an age - before their bodies are physically mature enough? For example, I thought it was strange that Bird played so many consecutive games in the seniors in his first year.

Did you quote the correct post there.... because ORB's post wasn't the slightest bit critical of any players aside from injury concerns, which he clearly indicates he thinks is at least some part due to Missen no longer being with us, rather than their fault.

It has been said before about the loss of Missen, being a huge loss to the swans, and it can be seen at St Kilda how they have benefited.

Obviously a Maestro at his craft.
However, surely his skills were passed onto the other medico/conditioning staff at the club. Or are they not as competent.

The Saints are crediting much of their success to Missen so it seems fair to track our sudden run of serious injuries to his loss.

Maxfield, Schauble, James and Doyle are 4 players I can think of that retired due to chronic injury during his reign.

I was thinking about this the other day, we have an ongoing history of having players retire or careers wrecked due to injury, I'd be interested to see how we compare with other clubs.

Chapman, Fitzgerald, Fixter, Fosdike, Sundqvist to name a few

Now we can add Laidlaw, Schmidt, DOK Playfair(?)

Vez, Currie, Murphy and Meredith have continued the worrying trend
