    Roos admits he wanted Fevola

This article is chock full of swans news.

    - Rhyce Shaw joins the leadership group after 1 season (who'd have thunk it)
    - Roos admits that he wanted Fev, but ultimately had nothing to trade (or at least nothing willing to trade)
    - We also made a play to get Tom Harley onto the coaching roster.... oh well at least we beat Carlton to Bradshaw.
    Ed Considine's day out - Round 3, 16th April 1995.
11 Kicks, 13 Handballs, 8 Marks, 1 Goal, 1 Behind, 1 Tackle, 1 Hitout, 3 Brownlow votes (his only votes)
    Ed = God

    Haha, touch of overstatement.

Roos "finally admitted he was interested", and yet when quoted, all he said was they did some case work, floated the idea (which would be standard for any big name being put on the trade table), but in the end he told Carlton himself that they'd have nothing they were able to trade for him, which is exactly what Roos said during trade week, almost word for word.

Sounds like journos grabbing on to anything to try to justify their insistence that Fev was going to the Swans. Ridiculous, amateurish stuff.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

Absolutely. The Harley reference is much more significant, even though it came to nothing. At least they were open to it.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

HOw do we know it came to nothing? Has Harley made an announcement?

He was reported in Fairfax press (sorry, can't be more specific, didn't save the reference) as having declined the offer.

Harley has joined Ch 7 on their commentary team for 2010. Announced during Spring Carnival.

Probably end up in some coaching capacity at GWS in time.
In memory of my little Staffy - Dicey, 17.06.2005 to 1.12.2011- I'll miss you mate.

I thought I read somewhere that Harley had accepted a coaching role with the AIS - alongside MickyO.

It is the Herald-Sun after all. The one thing you can say for them is that they know their readership.

                  Yep, you're absolutely right.

One thing I question, however, is how Roos and the Swans were able to have any interest at all in Fev.

Given the reasoning behind dumping Hall (repeat offender etc), one would think that Fev is the next cab off the ranks to fall into the 'repeat offender' category.
The Swans come out with all these great statements and innuendo (Swans are a clean cut team, no dickheads etc etc) and then they show interest in probably the biggest dickhead listed as a player.

Don't get me wrong, I would have loved to have Fev.
And I am happy with any lies and cloak and dagger tactics which the Swans may use to get the players they want at trade week.

Just seems strange that one day they come out and flip off Hall, and then they admit that they wanted Fev.....

The big difference is that Fev's indiscretions occur off the field, whereas Barry's occur on the field. The first variety don't cost 4 points or 6 weeks!

I'm not exactly certain which statements the Swans have actually come out with boasting about how clean cut they are. The only one that is often repeated is Ricky Barham saying something along the lines that he wouldn't recruit a player he thought was a dickhead. However even trying to find where and when he quoted that one is impossible

The Swans have put considerable effort into marketing themselves as a team which is not 'frowned upon' by the public and is generally regarded in a much better light than most of the otehr teams and particularly rugby.
Kirk and Roos and otehr have come out in the media with statements such as "this is not the sort of behaviour we expect..." and try to instil a mature approach to football and off field behaviour in the players.

Of field and on field is all the same.

                      Same same but different.

We can sit and try and dissect the nuances between actions, but they are all undesirable.

In the end, Roos and Kirk came out and slammed Hall for his actions, then the Swans looked at Fevola.
Am I the only one who finds that kinda hypocritical?

Like I said, I don't GAF what Fev does off the field - he's a human.
And Hall should have been helped rather than shunned.
But you can't act one way one month and then another the next month.

                          not enough help, obviously

I think it all may have been taken out of context.

Yep, but that's only a very part-time job. I'm pretty sure Magic and Lloyd are both doing things outside of that as well.
