Yes, but I think the question should be is there enough AFL interest to sustain two teams.

Well Melbourne probably cannot sustain 9 AFL teams plus The Cats (nearby) for the long term.
One of them will have to merge with Western Sydney (Richmond), and one with the GC (North Melbourne).
So we will be back to 16, a sensible number.

I agree on GC and the Kangas, however, I think Western Bulldogs would be a better fit in Sydney and the Tigers off to Tassie. My 2 cents.

Quite so. And at present, probably not.

              No.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

That is not what the poll was asking.
Sure Sydney is big enough but is there enough interest???
                Ask again in 2012.

Yes. A lot of AFL fans in Sydney and NSW aren't Swans fans and a new team rather than a forced relocation of another Victorian team may get them on board.

Plus the AFL are throwing truckloads of cash into Auskick to get the kids on board who will get their parents involved. Long term plan is to have the kids continue to support the club once they're adults and repeat the cycle with their own kids.

I have to say though its great seeing the rubgy league followers @@@@ting their pants over it - feeling a bit threatened perhaps?. (and we all know that AFL wont take over from league - but its mighty good fun upsetting them into thinking that AFL will!) I follow league as well, but sadly there are some in this city who cant see outside the square and are not capable of following more than one code. oh well lets just see what transpires.

Whilst I dont believe it will be a huge run away success in the interim, I dont feel its going to be monumental failure either. But it is a chance to show the leaguies what real footy crowds are like - so if the AFL are smart - they will saturate the airwaves promoting it. As long as the ads are entertaining, exciting and seats at games are reasonably priced, the people just might come.

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................
