On SBS news tonight they said that Richo was expected to announce his retirement from football tomorrow. One of the AFL's most popular players - pity his pathetic club couldnt have brought more success to his football career.

I often wished Richo was a Swan, then when he kicked for goal.....
He will be missed by this football follower.Does God believe in Atheists?Comment

Congratulations on a wonderful career Richo - got better with age, but unfortunately his club didn't improve with him. A player clearly loved by teammates and opponents alike, he will be missed on the field.
I'm on the Chandwagon!!!
If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

Occupational hazards:
I don't eat animals since discovering this ability. I used to. But one day the lamb I was eating came through to me and ever since then I haven't been able to eat meat.Comment

Without a doubt it will be a sad day tomorrow if it occurs.
Not just for the Tigers, but for the entire football world."It's up to the rest of the players in the room to make a new batch of premiership players next year," Adam Goodes, triple Bob Skilton Medallist, October 7, 2011.

I've always loved Richo, the guy was an absolute gun. His kicking was sometimes maligned, and I say unfairly. True, of the top 11 goal scorers since behinds were recorded for all games (since 1987) his accuracy ranks 11th, but it is comparable to Stephen Kernahan, Gary Ablett Snr and Wayne Carey. Hardly the company a player with the yips would keep. Having said that, Barry Hall can go off the boil and his accuracy is currently at 62.73%.
Richardson's retirement does mean, however, that Barry Hall is the leading goal scorer in the competition still playing (25th overall). 2 century years with the Bulldogs could see him jump as high as 10th, though I see that as unlikely.Attached Files10100111001 ;-)Comment

Sad news - a great entertainer.
Never knew what he was going to do next.He ate more cheese, than time allowedComment

One of football's great characters, his obvious brilliance punctuated with the odd OOBOTF. I wish him all the best for the rest of his life.He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

I'm tearing up my Richo Membership!
What a shame that he couldn't go out on the field. Such an iconic player for all the right reasons and I think the code has too few of them - he will be missed. Probably in every footy fans top 5 favourite players.Comment

Noooooooo!
I loved watching Richo play, You'd have absolutely no idea what he was going to do next. He?d go from the sublime to the ridiculous in the same nanosecond, but in a good way.
It was like watching stand-up. Was always guaranteed a laugh with the comedy stylings of Matthew Richardson.
I'll miss him.-Comment

Champion bloke, champion player and would've been the most likeable player going around. You never knew what you were going to get when he had the ball but it would've been entertaining nonetheless. An 800-goal kicking legend for the Tiggers, farewell Richo.I only support one team: The SYDNEY SWANS!!!!! :adore
