    Rookie elevations

Do we have more than any other club??

    Kennelly (International)
    Pyke (International)
    Thornton
    Smith
    Bevan
    O'Dwyer
    Barlow
    Kirk
    Jack
    Bird (Scholarship player)

That's 10 out of 32 senior players. Extraordinary, surely. :-)

Bird was never on the rookie list. And Pyke hasn't been elevated properly. Not sure Thornton really counts either, given he was originally on the senior list, On the other hand, you have missed Reg off your list, and can also add in Mattner, Mumford and McGlynn (and in the past Jolly) who all started their careers as rookies.

Given our failure to get anything out of DOK or Willoughby and the less than stellar career of 2nd round picks like Ablett and Schmidt (injuries notwithstanding), it just goes to show that top picks are far from the be-all-and-end-all of building a competitive team.

We've only got 9, Pyke is still a rookie and hasn't been promoted to the main list.

Based on 2009 lists, Collingwood and WCE both had 8 rookies on the main list, Geelong only had two, Hawthorn, Port, & Bulldogs each had three.

So yes we have the most but only just.

I reckon most clubs would be more than happy with 133 senior games from a second round pick?

Thanks for the replies...so that makes 12 of 32...puts all this "who will be the first round picks?" into perspective.

          Kennelly (International)
          Thornton
          Smith
          Bevan
          O'Dwyer
          Barlow
          Kirk
          Jack
          Grundy
          Mumford
          McGlynn
          Mattner

On the other hand, I believe we currently have just 4 players picked in the first round when they were 18ish - J. Bolton, Johnstone, McVeigh and Veszpremi. We'll soon have 2 more, of course.
