OK, I did what I promised to do last week, I fronted up at training this morning at Lakeside and what did I see? A flock of Swans heading my way; at pace and half naked. I was looking at a multiple of Michaelangelo's Davids. Not an ounce of anything but sinew and muscle. It was just lovely. Like being at an outdoor art gallery.
There were about twenty or so, doing single laps of the oval trailed by some of the assistant coaches. Stewy looks just fine, Frost can run but he is not as skinny as he was, the others I am not sure about, everyone wearing caps. And shirts.
The front runners were the blonds, Cheese and Peb. Kirky looked like a block of mahogany. (has anyone introduced him to sunblock yet?). So does Bulldog - I think we just have to accept the fact that he is not built for speed.
Only a few of the usual suspects, the rest of them newbies and nearly there's. Mike Pike is no longer the biggest set of shoulders on the block. I strongly suspect I was looking at Josh Kennedy. I must remember my binoculars next time. Gilchrist has a way to go in muscling up, but he has nothing to be challenged by in his shape.
Stayed to watch the place kicking to voice, which was good to observe. Two or three calling the name of whoever had the ball and that person making a quick choice and kicking to voice (accurately?). All this in multiples, all over the shop, so they had to be sure of name and placement. Lots of laughing going on with this exercise.
Next time I front up I will take a hat. And binoculars. Is it possible to not look like a perve with binoculars?
