    The Swans 9 year cycle

    1987 - 1996 - 2005 - 2014

    Anyone else notice it?

2014 would presumably be around the time the recent young drafts have cemented their spots in the side.

    2010 - Challenge/Make the 8
    2011 - Cement position in 8
    2012 - Challenge/Make Top 4
    2013 - Cement Positon/Challenge for Flag
    2014 - Win flag

Simple - don't know why more clubs don't do it.
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.

A five year plan? I can't see that failing.

BH for me thats too long !!...........Bradshaw, Goodes, Kirk, Bolton, Jude etc are integral to the balance of a successful team and that blended with youth in 2010 or 2011 will be very interesting

2010 - we actually have a great mix of players and all it comes down too is a few young fella's killing it

The Pies are a great example of a nice blend of youth that shot thru the last few years ie Leone and Dale etc gave the Pies a burst of life

I truly can see our Jetta, Hannebery, SMithy, White, Kennedy, Bird, Jack, Mumford, Johnston, TDL, etc etc be the "Change of the Guard" in 2010.......there is a few events like so many seniors leaving, also Roo's departing and a squad of possibilities that is cumulating for 2010.

I just love a crusade and I love the balance of of the 2010 team

And lets not forget there will be a few River Dances to watch with Glee in 2010 !!

        1978 - 9 wins, 13 losses, 8th. 1969 - 7 wins, 13 losses, 9th. 1960 - 7 wins, 11 losses, 8th. Shall I go on?

Would only be right if swans made GF in 1987

I meant they had a very good team with a chance of making the final...some big wins.

But if you go back 18 yrs from 2010, 2011, 2012 you get to 1992, 1993, 1994 which were all stellar years for the club............................

The nine-year theory seems pretty close to the mark in the AFL today. The effect of the draft since it was introduced in 1993 has been to make success cyclical.

They didnt have home finals in 1987. Major disadvantage back then.
So I think we can say we were good enough for a grand final berth all things being equal.

Not likely. We were terrible in the '87 finals. The club was in the process of imploding after the Edelsten fiasco.

You must have long arms Bloody.

Thats an awfully long bow your drawing!!

Don't you just love the off-season?
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
