Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

8 for "super" Marty. That is just for his flying tackle on some Tigger I will never remember the name of.
He played some very good games and some average ones, but I can't remember any shockers.

Jewels is correct - Jack Riewoldt wasn't quite quick enough.

Marty has fitted into our structure perfectly and is now a vital member of our team. Another very good year and with our strength of half-backs, he will only get better if released to the wing.

        8/10

I was harsh on Marty. The tackle was outstanding but I just feel a bit ho-hum about him.
Tough year where he was not playing his best position and had to be a bit of a fill-in at times. He kicks some superb long range goals.

Not always great with the decision making skills but turns up where we need him and is not afraid of putting his body on the line, has a nice kick, I gave him 9

The guy can really play and has fitted into our side beautifully. If Mal comes back to form and Tadgh goes well then I reckon Marty will get more up ground time which should be exciting. Like the way he backs himself and tries to make things happen.

THE tackle on Reiwoldt Jnr was an all time classic.

A great buy for a late 2nd round draft pick.

Solid, dependable and easily the best defender of the 4 guys looking at a HB position. I know alot of posters are shooting to have Marty moved up to the wing, but I'm hoping Tadhg and Mattner occupy the flanks next year.

Late in the season he played some games as a tall, quick run-with player in the midfield. He even started in the centre square at some bounces. I thought he did it quite effectively and our surplus of HBFers might free him up a bit more for this kind of role in 2010.

When he first came to Sydney, the prevailing thoughts on most Adelaide fan boards was that his relatively poor last season with the Crows was due to him being forced to play deep in defence due to injuries to Crow defenders.

Most thought if he was allowed to run and use his pace on a wing, which he had done successfully in the previous seasons, he would regain lost form. It's fair to say most were disappointed he was traded.

His first season with Sydney found him again forced to play deeper than maybe he and the club wanted him to play, but he still managed to finish 3rd (?) in the B&F.

As Liz points out, he had more minutes further up the ground during 2009 and we may well see him used in a slightly different role this coming year.

                      I think he was a solid (7)

He is an 8 compared to his team mates but a 7 compared to other flank defenders in the comp

If Smithy goes to another level and Mal returns to his best the competition on the flanks in defence will be awesome in 2010

7.5 from me, but 7 on the tally. He doesn't look like he can, but he does move very quickly when desparation requires it. I think he slips under the radar. He is not flash. But he is always in and around and works. And he is not adverse to using the whole length and width of the ground. We got a good one when we picked him up.

It amazes me sometimes that we seem to have had so many positives from players who couldn't get a gig with their original clubs. We really do have some very hard workers in our recruitment areas.

7/10 - needs to play on the wing to use his run and booming booming left boot to advantage.
He had a near AA season on the wing in 05-06 i think.

Handy in the backline but boy he makes some howlers.

                            7. Very handy player. Shows courage, good tackler and dependable left foot kick.

Decision making lets him down on the odd occasion and will be better if plays further up the ground in 2010.

Well down on last year. Still serviceable but not at his best. His role probably changed a little with Shaw coming into the side but I'd like to see an 8 from him next year.
