    Paul Bevan....

Fighting for the footy - Official AFL Website of the Sydney Swans Football Club

"Bevan, 25, has spent most of his 108-game career"

Found it interesting that he's now played 108 games. absolutely MUST step up this year or will soon find himself with the same fate as ablett I feel.

One thing about Bevo is his absolute desire to be as good as he can be and get the best out of himself 100% of the time. But is it enough the new and improved 2010 team?

    Computer says NO.

The 2008 version is good enough for the new and improved 2010 team. The 2009 version almost certainly isn't.

Hopefully we get to see more of the former.

I think he will have a good year and play most games. I like to see him up forward playing a defensive role, creating goal opportunities by putting pressure on defenders.

Agree, this is his best position by far.

The other advantage is that once doing all the hard stuff like chasing, tackling and pressure, if he does the get the ball (he is decent overhead) then his goal kicking skills are very good.

Hopefully he will slot straight into the team into Abletts spot from last year.

I'm glad that he tackled hard in the 15 a side practice match where tackling was not allowed.

Ahhhh Bevo and giving away silly free kicks
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

The Bevanator is head and shoulders above Ablett in ability, but Ablett does a better meat raffle ad.

Bevo is at the bottom of the silly free kick class compared to the "Great Leo".

How can I bag Bevo when Connolly isn't here.

It's just not right I tells ya!!
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Bevo, Bevo, Bevo. When up, running and full of confidence, I reckon he has Campbell Brown-like potential (seems like the best comparison). He can be a real asset, but at the moment he relies too much on confidence. If he makes a mistake, he'll likely make 10 more before the night's out.

I've been wanting him tried out full time in the forwardline since mid-2008. He's not quite quick enough to go with the quick smalls, not quite good enough in the air to handle good medium forwards, but he's a ferocious tackler, and has demonstrated a surprisingly good goal sense in his few forays up forward. He's also not too bad on the lead.

There's a place in this side for Bevo, and it's in the forward pocket or flank (I'd say somewhere in between). He has the ability to make it his own. It's just a question of extracting that ability. It's rare you see a guy as tough and committed as Bevo at your club, so it would be a shame for that to go to waste, when we've seen he DOES actually have the skills and smarts to succeed.

If you have a good look at this thread - 2010 team......lets have a go !! - RedandWhiteOnline (RWO) Messageboard you'll have some idea about Bevan's future.
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.

Yeah right..he didn't make my team either. The comparison with Campbell Brown minus the agro is a good one and I also support the move up forward however I fear it is all too late for Bevo now! We have a hot forward line and hot competition for places in it.Bevo's spot in the forwards ,I now have Trent D-L pencilled in and after one trial game and 3 goals in a 1/2 I would predict he would give us more than Bevo. While I admire Bevo's ferocious attack on his man ,we have seen this result in crucial free kicks against us all too often especially with timid umpires.I fear this courageous player has one last chance to prove himself and it will be in the backline.Roosey likes him( what coach wouldn't)but as we have seen,he lacks finesse in his tackling,he is a bit slow on quicks and caught out on talls. I pity the poor guy who has to stand him in the Canberra league however !

We have just recruited 3-4 ready-made mid-sized players who will (or would have) directly compete(d) for a game against the likes of 42, 33 and the departed 32 and 20. Critically, we have just significantly improved the caliber of our bottom 6 - a must to win the tight games.
"As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.
Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.

Have you noticed that when a noted player retires, someone always steps out of the very big shadow cast by them and stands tall? Happened to Leo et al when Cressa/Dunks/Schwatta retired. Even happened with White when BBB retired. I am putting my money on Bev to do something similar. Bravery isn't his issue. Self belief and self effacing style is.
