This year I'm planning to have a short break to catch two Swans games interstate.

I'm thinking either Dogs @ Manuka/Freo @ SCG or Collingwood @ ANZ/Wretchmond @ MCG.

I know with the later pair of games I can get tickets at the gate but what about the Manuka and the SCG game?

The reserves program doesn't yet appear on the website, based on previous years, do they play before the main game at Manuka, ANZ and the SCG as Id like to go the whole hog and see two games each match day.

Against Freo it is almost definite you'll be able to get in on the day - unless we're unbeaten, winning by average margins of 200 pts and the bandwagon is a-rolling. Very high chance you'll be able to walk up at Manuka too, though with much smaller capacity if both clubs are going well there is some chance it will sell out (and the better seats will probably be gone).

Reserves games are usually played as curtain raisers at SCG and ANZ but occasionally they get bumped by another curtain raiser (eg an U18 game). I don't think they have ever played a reserves game as a warm-up at Manuka. They usually play either the day before or after (not sure if the senior game is Saturday or Sunday) and for some reason it always seems to be in Tuggeranong, which is a half hour or so south of Canberra City (driving).

Thanks for that. Looks like either trip is workable. I'll wait for the reserves program and have a rethink then.

I'll be driving, so Tuggeranong could get to see me if that's where the reserves do play that weekend.

Yes, but you have the advantage of being able to drive the car up onto the outer wing and watch the game in the car, radio tuned to the AFL game of the day and beep the horn when the boys kick a goal.

So how "big" is the crowd at Tuggeranong? Do many Swans supporters actually go to these games or is it just WAGS and parents/grandparents?

I like the sound of parking on the wing though, might save me the extra two layers of clothing ....... and an umbrella ........ and wellies!

When the players run out, the ground announcer introduces the crowd to the players.....it's quicker.

If you want tickets for the grandstands at Manuka, best to book in advance, but if your happy enough to sit on the hll/terraces then ticket on the day would be fine (Though if its a fine day the sun can be a pain at times!).

No SITTING on the hill at Manuka, they have "bleachers" and tell us 250 times a day that they are only to be STOOD on!!!!

It would also be very unusual to need an umbrella (& gumboots), but it can be VERY cold.

Not the ground announcer - he keeps saying they are for standing not sitting.

It's best to book for Manuka. If it's sunny, there'll be a full house.

If you sit in the stands, they offer a little protection from the FREEZING winds that come off the snowys.
