    Looks like Port are GAWN

Port Adelaide Magpies that is. Not the Power variety.

From an accross the border perspective I just can't believe that this will actually happen.

The SANFL member clubs have effectively signed the death certificate of its most successful and certainly most prominent club, tossing aside 140 years of history. Must be a true basket case indeed.

    I'll say it again, unbelievable!

I know that they are hated over there like Collingwood here, but, as you say, that is unbelievable!

God how I used to loathe them as a kid, being the deadly rival of the Double Blues.

And their fans really are the worst of the worst. Even a friend of mine on the Power coaching staff (and who's a Port diehard!) jokes about them.

But they're one of the most successful footy clubs anywhere -- 140 years old and 34-odd premierships.

They've mostly missed the finals for the last few years and their revenue and the sponsorship base has fallen, even though I believe most of the SANFL clubs are sailing OK. Not great, but OK.

Port Power has only just this week signed a sponsorship with My ATM. No, I'd never heard of them, either. So, tough times at Alberton.

I'm going to miss not having the Magpies to kick around any more.

I can imagine how upset I'd be if Collingwood left the AFL .... not.

You know my hatred of Collingwood is a living and breathing thing but somehow they make footy fun. I'd miss the passion they stir in me if they ever left the AFL.

As an Adelaide born Glenelg supporter I grew up hating Glenelgs arch enemy Port. However, I think that if this despised but immensely successful club were to fold, it would be a huge and tragic loss for the SANFL.

                  I do agree with you.

As much as I hate Collingwood, if they were to fold, there would be something about what makes footy great that would be gone forever. The competition just wouldn't be the same.

Can't believe the SANFL clubs have allowed this to happen for any other reason than their own self interest, which funnily enough will be the beginning of the end for some of them.

                        True,

I'd much prefer to watch them dwindle down the bottom of the ladder for the next 10 years and see them get pumped week in week out

The SANFL and its clubs did a lot to bring about that situation...they bail out North Adelaide, which then leads the way to dump the Magpies. Maybe as Port fans we should wrap it up, dump the SANFL forever and purely follow the Power as an "up yours" to all who have plotted against the Maggies! Without Port Adelaide the SANFL would become even more irrelevant than it already is.
