      Bias media.

I'm sure, if Malthouse had complained instead of Roos, it'll be front page in the Herald-Sun and the Age newspapers.

Again, this happens quite a bit with players and often results in a mid-year exit from the club. Barry Hall left our club early last year when he was not able to focus on his role.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

I see little real reason to have the players named, beyond just sheer curiosity.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

The only legitimate reason I can think of would have been more in terms of trading week as to who would be able to be traded (but that's not something that would pop up now unless a team wants to tank the whole season).

I think it's going to be a funny old year in that sense, clubs will get suspicious of players who are prolonging negotiations or refusing to start them and players and player managers will utilise GC at every opportunity to leverage in contract negotiations.

I agree with Roosey, you can't have the current AFL system but have one club who can secretly sign players a year in advance knowing that they don't have to negotiate trades for them. It just isn't fair on the other 16 clubs, I can't help but think there is a slightly better system out there - such as GC having to inform the AFL club of their approach to a player or something.

it is wrong that this situation has arisen and it should be prevented in the future. however, i think it would be more wrong for players caught up in this to have the conditions under which they have made agreements to be changed to their disadvantage.

Yeah I should clarify actually, I disagree with discarding players that have signed because they are allowed to, however it is ridiculous that we or any other club may be spending 2010 developing a player who has already signed with another club. I realise Jesse White has already signed with us, but imagine if we spent the year giving him heaps of ground time with an eye to the future, when his future isn't with us at all!

would definitely be disappointing and should not have been allowed to occur.

I remember Bird, Smith, White, Vez & Meredith all signing new/extended contracts last year, can anyone recall if Hannebery did too?

Hanners's first year with the club, he would have signed a contract at the beginning of the season

I know his initial contract was for 09/10, but don't you find it odd that after his efforts late last season, he hasn't been secured for an additional year or 2?

Did I hear right on the news that Theo Dimwit has approved "open season" for trading????

Oh my Ron L Hubbard. That's just not right.

This is one of the main reasons many die hard RL fans are becoming disenchanted with their game. I have a very good friend in Brisbane who is becoming a Lions member for the first time this year, after being a devoted Broncos man since the beginning of time. The garbage with Bennett signing with St George early in the 08 season was the final straw for him with RL.
Talk to any RL fan and this is one facet of their game that they all detest.
The majority of my friends are thugby league fans and ALL of them love the AFL drafting system and think it should be adopted. Whoda thought that we'd be going the other way? It's just not right I tells ya.
