Goals or Points - the ratio matters

Set Shot... 35m out, slight angle - should be a certain goal - after all the player kicking is a professional. He misses....aaaagh - its frustrating

If we converted every scoring chance that should be a goal we will be in the top 4.

Maybe a global campaign MAKE SET SHOT MISSES HISTORY.
Do clubs provide enough training on kicking for goal??? How can the club improve the ratio?

So would every other team in the AFL!

Last time I checked, our playing list was composed entirely of real people. As a result, methinks that some set shots will always be missed....

Took my friend from the USA out for a kick after he had been too vociferous criticising missed shots from 40-50 metres out last time we watched AFL.To his surprise he missed from 10 metres out dead in front. He didn't make the distance from 30 metres and was in awe of me dobbing one through from 40 metres out. When I stood his mark and distracted him he went to water completely. After that reality check, next time he watched he was amazed at guys who could kick straight over 50 metres. Kicking straight is a hard skill to master. To kick straight over 50 metres everything must be perfect. Thats why guys like Tony Lockett were such amazing freaks coz they rarely missed a shot from any angle or distance.

People comment that as football has evolved in skills, that goalkicking has not kept up. IMHO there's a very simple reason for this - goalposts can't move and adjust to where the ball is going like players receiving a pass can to make it look like the ball went exactly where intended. If teams could pick the posts up and move them so the ball passed between the big sticks, I'm sure we'd see conversion improve!

          I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

Hehehehe.. i am glad to see you treating this thread with the seriousness it deserves. !! My point is that to kick 50 metres takes good skills. To kick it through the goals from 50 meters out on a 35 degree angle takes great skills.Unless you have played, most people (like my friend) have NO IDEA how hard it is.
