    Binge Benny

Hard living undercuts Cousins' hard work

RICHMOND has warned its troubled midfielder Ben Cousins to curb his drinking. Revelations that the recovering drug addict has overindulged in alcohol over the past year came as he was readmitted to hospital at midnight on Sunday with stomach illness.

The club fears that Cousins, 31, could further shorten his already diminished career as a result of binge drinking. The former West Coast champion, who has been regularly drug-tested by the AFL since being given a second chance at elite football by the Tigers, is now unlikely to play in Richmond's season-opener against Carlton on March 25.

In a statement released by the club, the Tigers said they expected the 2005 Brownlow Medallist and recovering drug addict to resume training in the next few days.
The club also denied reports that they had warned Cousins to curb his drinking, amid fears his AFL career could be further shortened by excessive alcohol consumption.
"In response to media speculation raised today, the Richmond Football Club confirms that Ben Cousins has never been spoken to individually with regards to binge drinking," the club statement said.
I would take any reports on Ben with a grain of salt, no matter what he does the media (and a lot of others) will jump on it and stretch it out of proportion.

Don't mention "grain of salt" around benny because he'll immediately want to know where the tequila and lemons are.

          What the hell?

Drugs are illegal - fair enough, make him stop.
          But binge drinking?
Nothing wrong with that. I'm sure it helps him relax after a big game.

Maybe they should fit a GPS to his leg....

I love binge drinking. It's downright unAustrayian not to binge.

Please don't come here posting your accurate and unprovocative facts.
There is no place for them on this thread.
As far as I am concerned, Benny has been wasted for the majority of his ames last year

Good to see that you kept the side up - nothing like a bunch of blokes away from the wives and kids on a golf trip - the excitement & anticipation on these occassions is such that it only takes about 2 beers and your are pretty much off your chops! - feel for the hotel cleaners though
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

Caro has a fair bit of access to Richmond and it wouldn't surprise me if they wanted this type of story to be published if they had some concerns. I binge drink all the time, but I'm not a recovering drug addict at his 2nd club trying to salvage his reputation.

I have 3 beers and fall asleep. Is that binge drinking or old age??

                              In your case, both.
