    Ben's Swan Debut

Hardened player, healthy attitude, eager to go. Pleased to have him on board.
    New Swan Ben McGlynn
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

    Benny Mac.

Roos has highlighted his versatility in the pre-season and it will be very interesting to see what role he plays tonight. Will it be as a run-with player on the likes of Montagna, or across half-forward, or perhaps as a surprise selection to play on Stephen Milne.

      Useless fact...

With McGlynn on our list, the Swans now have the last two players recruited in 2005, with McGlynn picked by the Hawks immediately before Jack was taken by the Swans. There are three players all listed after them on the draft list, but all were priority picks so selected at the start of that year's rookie draft not the end.

(Though all three were Swans picks and one - Barlow - still remains.)

It looks to be a pretty deep draft, with all but one of the top 20 still on clubs lists and of the 19 remaining, only three (Bailey, Drum and JON) are not yet established regulars, and Bailey probably would be if it weren't for injury. Another 24 players taken in the main draft still remain on lists, while 10 of the rookies (aside from Jack, Barlow and McGlynn) are also still in the system.

        Another useless fact...

McGlynn is also from the same small town of two previous Swans players (Heath James and Jamie Lawson) - which is, incidentally, where I grew up.
