Was great to get to the game last night... gees I'm glad footy is back! I thought the Saints were better on the day at the end of it, but yes there were some bewildering decisions from the umpires. I always sit next to a North supporter at the games so I get an impartial veiw on all umpiring decisions (whether I want one or not!), some were fair, some just bizarre.

Some very promising signs from the club though and I'm looking forward to an exctiing year. Jetta will be fun to watch as he develops. Seaby was a great addition. Thought LRT did a great job on Koschitzke. Riewolting just too go for Grundy most of the time.

No. The reason there's not so many comments is that he wasn't that bad. Some crap disposals & some defensive blunders aside I thought he was ok (given such a long break in the Irish wilderness).

          Some quick comments -

Jetta was exciting to watch when he got involved - I think the goal to Jesse White was set up by Jetta's sprint from the congestion once the swans won possession - he seemed 10 metres in the clear by the time anyone had reacted and this set up the eventual easy goal.

Mumford seems to always get his hands on the ball at the hit outs and kept winning frees (for what I don't know).

Goodes was sublime. 3 goals and some smoking assists.

I think our backline will be everything we have hoped once it has a few more weeks to gel.

Forward line combo needs work but it was as much about delivery into the forward line as the forwards.

I think we are only one brilliant midfielder away from the top sides. Enter Daniel Hanneberry, 40 possessions in the 2's might mean he has reached the fitness required after his hiccup in the pre season.

Hanners was a class above in the Ressies and would be the only change I would make for Adelaide.

Not that Teddy was bad, but Shaw spent a hell of a lot of time in the middle. I'd prefer to see him running down back linking up with Tadhg and Eski and have Hanners in the middle.

                    That's how I'd have it.
I reckon we would have pinched it on Saturday if Hanners had been out there. I know that he didn't have enough pre-season to warrant selection this week, but I think he'll make a huge difference against the Crows.

Would hope that someone pushing for a seniors spot be a stand out in a third rate competition.

Ted didn't lose us the game. His stats were better than LRT, Mattner, McGlynn and Bradshaw (looked dangerous but wasn't) and White (now has had experience with massive floods, will do better) and with his 4 tackles, better than Jetta's. 5 disposals less than both Kirk and Goodes. It seemed to me that when Kennelly played on Schneider, Schneider won. When Ted played on Schneider Ted won. I think we need Ted's steadiness and experience as well as the younger flashier players. Roos might contrinue to use him from the bench to plug holes as they arise in a match. If Ted played for himself before the team he would not be so underrated.

I thought White had a shocker. With Playfair kicking 4 and Bradshaw sure to improve he might have trouble holding onto his spot. Currie is always an option as well. I think however Roos will give him more chances and give the team a chance to settle down.Kennedy did not do enough either and a swap for Hanneberry could give the team a bit more penetration. Now Bevan is a forward player I would have him in instead of McGlynne who was servicible but will never win us a game.I see Tiger agrees with the critics on here that his delivery was off and we hopefully will see improvement. He needs to flatten out his kicks by leaning back more like Eski and that will stop them going too high. Get rid of that Gaelic football chip that a round ball promotes. I like the Swans team however.Mistakes in the backlines and the Umpires lost us the game.We will do better as Adelaide, coming off a thrashing will discover.

Bit daft to compare the East Coast Eagles defence to the St Kilda defence. (And while Playfair showed that his enforced lay-off hasn't affected his marking ability, it sure hasn't provided a miracle cure for his kicking issues.)

White had a poor game but it is going to happen. All forwards have poor games from time to time, especially ones with - what - about 20 games under their belt (many of which were not even as a forward).

The team does need to work out how to accomodate three big marking forwards at the same time, but the fact that they haven't yet is neither surprising nor overly worrying. It maybe that White needs to work further out from goal and leave more space for Bradshaw to work in. So rather than set up as two big guys playing from the goal square and one roaming a bit (Goodes), it possibly needs to evolve into one in the goal square and two roaming a bit wider.

Thanks for the affirmation. No relation to Ted. Do have a soft spot for him, LRT, Reg, Jesse White and about 30 other Swans. I try to remain objective.
