Play-on at all costs has an unfortunate by-product called 'Over-Use'. When questionnably skilled players enter such a realm, mistakes get made and under severe pressure, they lead to opposition goals.

I hope as always that most of the mistakes made running out of the back half are just a matter of practice and more practice.

That said, the core part of this outfit is enthusiasm, fitness and some serious speed into the midfield that has been lacking for some years. Skills and timing will get better.

Damn annoying that the opposition gets in the way! (And to be fair, it might get a tad tedious if the plan worked to perfection.)

Of course, if the opposition is delayed coming out after half-time it helps immensely when the 3rd quarter starts without them

Even skilled players fall into that trap at times. The Cats skills were shocking in the first half yesterday under the pressure that the hawks were able to impose. Not sure how much it was them pulling themselves together in the second half or the Hawks' pressure dipping slightly that enabled them to get back on track.

Realistically, unless you have a super skilled team choc-bloc of confidence, you have to be able to mix the styles a bit. Much as Melbourne's endeavour was wonderful on Saturday, there were times late in that final quarter where I was screaming for them to just slow it down slightly. I reckon a bit more composure in the middle, rather than their relentless playing-on, would have got them the win.
