This is not quite a match preview but . . .

I?ll be at the SCG on Saturday night.

Yes, I?ll be there. I?ll be there early ? because I have to support the boys, because I like to get a good seat, because I enjoy watching the magoos, because I can get a headstart on the booze.

I?ll be there because last Saturday?s effort against the Crows (and even the narrow loss to the Saints in Rd1) had a fart-in-an-elevator-strong whiff of 2003 about it. A young side, emerging, on the make, bold.

I?ll be there because I want to see Dan the Man in the flesh, I want to see young Jetstar dashing down the wing, I want to see big Mummy crash and bash. Hell, I even want to see just how bald Tadhg is these days. Like a bat, methinks.

But it won?t be the same. Richmond, our foes, are no good. In fact, they?ve been no good since they jagged a finals slot in 2001. They have chewed up coaches. They have tried older recruits. They have tried younger recruits. They have promised a new dawn, again and again and again.

In short, they are duds. No forward line, a slow old midfield and defenders my grandma could push aside in a contest.

So how are we going to beat them ? simply, we show up. Forget ?tactics? and those fancy-schmancy ideas. Forget ?structures? and those modern management abominations that apply to football these days.

    We show up, win the ball, run forward and go bang! A two-goal lead . . . a six-goal lead . . . an eight-goal lead . . . a 12-goal lead. Hell, that?s only up to half time.

You know it and I know it.

So let?s be honest. Let?s discard discussion of key match ups. Let?s go for pure percentage.

And let?s do the one thing that?d make this match truly entertaining. That is, encourage Richmond to bring back the one thing that made them relevant, or entertaining, or even valid opposition in recent years ? Richo!

That?s right ? the Goran Ivanisevic or the AFL. Goran once said: 'I changed my attitude in my head. I had to have a press conference with myself. After I did the press conference, everything was working.'

    Richo would understand.

A man who could berate his own teammates after HE kicked the ball out on the full. A man who could miss from dead in front. A man who could go from the ridiculous to the sublime to the ridiculous in three seconds flat.

There?s one thing left to say ? we miss Richo and we want Richo back.

    Please!

If the Swans show up with that attitude, I'm taking the 6 bucks on Richmond at the TAB.

We have struggled over the years against sides that we are supposed to beat because we indeed turn up with that attitude.
..And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

Oh I couldn't agree more. I'd be pissed if the team turns up on Saturday night with that attitude, though IU2 was still right in what he said. If both teams play the way they have been playing in the first two rounds, we would win comfortably. But you can't always use the past to predict the future!

Richmond's defenders are actually quite good against big opponents. Problem is they suck on the rebound, turn the ball over, have a @@@@ midfield, and a shallow, inconsistent forwardline.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

We have a whole lot of different Swans flown in from different lakes. They will have their own attitude, like they did last week. Fine by me. Go Mighty Mouse!

In other words, a bit like Melbourne vs. Collingwood.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
