Swans games on FTA into Melbourne this year

The problem is that the Swans have a big Melbourne base, and the AFL et al don't recognise this.

They were once South Melboune based and there are a lot of supporters still around down here.
we have a Melbourne based membership because the Swans realise there is a supporter base, just that the AFL seem to have forgotten that....
With all the new FTA channels, there really is nothing syopping a 7 and 10 deal (or any other combo of channels) to show the games without having to rope in Foxtel.
However, it all comes down to the $$$ and if Fox offer, they'll accept again.
Unless the AFL decided to regulate the TV rights a bit.
But that might mean Collingwood fans NOT being able to see the majority of their games on FTA.

Really, if I could prove I'm realted to a digger, it drops to about $20 or $30 ?I think, but alas, although some of them signed up, none saw action.

The biggest clubs in Sydney charge $5-$20 max. And we are talking clubs like Mounties and Panthers etc which are mini cities !!!

But then, we don't charge $65 to see a footy game.
What do they charge for a beer?
We have $3 pots, and $14 meals, in the members bar. Plus the precious member points, however the hell that works.

Yes, you do. Just contact them and they'll send it out. Or I can Pm it. Not sure if it changes weekly or yearly, but I only had to enter it once last year. I've got the new one, but I've only watched justin once this year so far.

Copyright maybe...but the facts are that for 99.9% of the world's population the AFL are not providing any coverage...T.V. or internet and so they are not protecting any revenue at all.....for the tiny minority that would watch justin.tv instead of real tv where it is available, then the actual money lost is completely insignificant compared to the opportunity to expand the audience worldwide.

To expand....nobody at all who has Fox is going to cancel it in order to watch justin.tv...nobody....it's an absolutely awful stream for the desperate and will remain for at least until superspeed broadband arrives. I have a 7.5 Mb connection which is waaaay more than nearly everyone in Australia and justin.tv is JUST watchable...it is worse than the bigpond streams. All the AFL need to do is offer live GOOD streaming that is recordable and we will pay for it no problem....the player needs to be able to select quality...etc....etc and then everyone would happily pay $1 a game and the AFL would make plenty.

The IPL have embraced YouTube and this is to their own benefit. The AFL have no clue and their POS website is testament to this. What do they have to lose by getting the word out there?

At least you have the option of watching at the pub with an ice cold froffy. In a few week's time I'll be living, for the rest of the season, in a country that's probably never even heard of AFL!

I was over in New Zealand for a bit last year and strewth the trouble I nearly found even suggesting/asking if they could put AFL on the TV in the pub, there were 4 tv's in the room and not a lot of other people, but of course they had them all on the same Warrior's game.

My only option from there was to go and watch a bloody dot on a PC screen. Did that on a holiday in Thailand too! I know I'm desperate but I have to ask, what century do we live in or more importantly, the AFL live in when there is no alternative to TV broadcast?

Don't be so sure. Google bought the rights to the IPL in the same manner that any online company could buy the Online Rights to the AFL. The AFL gains if such a bid is made, the only hurdle being that it must make-up the shortfall in TV rights (which would concievably suffer under such a deal) or the AFL must placate the TV Stations with safegaurds of their content.

The is a problem with Singapore - and in fact all areas services by The Australian Network;

I did 6 months work with my ex-company in Singapore in '08 and the crucial Swans Vs Pies game at the tail end of the season wasn't on. Instead we had a battle between 11th and 15th.

My inquiry to the Aus Network was replied with the fact that they chose the games they show prior to the season and can't change them dependant on ladder positions. Weak.

I think that this is really the reason that so few games on FTA in Melbourne this year feature the swans - all the networks thought that they would be crap. The fixture has not yet been made for round 22 - Swans v Brisbane could be match of the round - maybe we will get one more (although as neither club is Melbourne based that match would need to be thought of quite highly).

I went through the broadcast guide before round one and was dismayed by the lack of coverage (even though I do have Foxtel). It is hard for kids and half-interested fans to get involved when the coverage is so poor - they might start supporting other teams. My 4-year-old niece has just started supporting the Swans (which was a coup, as the rest of her family are Bombers supporters) but I am fearful that her interest will drop off if she doesn't see them regularly on TV - although the Swans guernsey she will be getting for her 5th birthday might help.

That would be annoying; but as I said in an earlier post, at least you can see AFL games there - there doesn't seem to be any coerage whatsoever in Romania.

The FTA coverage hasn't changed in a long while.
About 10 years after the AFL's relocation promise that "every game played in Sydney would be shown live into Melbourne" they started to drop off.

As for the kids thing, my daughter has switched to geelong, because she gets to see the games.
The rest of my kids support the Swans, but rarely watch games when they make it on to TV, through a general lack of interest, through lack of exposure.
Even when i go to the games there is no real desire to come along.

LUXURY!!! Last year they played one game a week....this year ....NOTHING!
