Thank God we didn't get Terry Wallace

Richmond are in an absolutely shocking position. Wallace was given a 5 year contract at the beginning of 05 and had a 5 year plan. According to his plan, this is when Richmond were supposed to be up there competiing for the flag. Instead they find themselves unbackable favourites for the spoon with nothing to really look forward to. None of their youngsters have really impressed. Are at least 4 or 5 years away from being a decent side. Wallace absolutely @@@@@@ them.

You have to lay some of the blame at the players. Short of pulling on a pair of shoes and getting out there himself, the coach can only do so much.

As for Wallace .... as far as my memory goes, the club wanted Wallace ... WE wanted Roosey. The club finally listened to its members.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Richmond can also look at their recruiting staff since 2005 if they want to point fingers...

Absolutely - it has been abysmal.
But getting Wallace was a capital blunder, and he would probably have gutted the Swans.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Good article by Patrick Smith in Mondays Australian puts it all into perspective.

Poor management =no money=poor recruitment= bad present and worse future=maybe new management can turn it around but yeah 5 years at a minimum and compromised drafts for the next two.

          Their drafting has been %$#@ed.

Tambling in front of Franklin says it all really.
..And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

They are a complete mess. 5 years of Wallace and this is what they got? I accept the front office has to take some blame but he'd have been involved in those decisions too. I'm very happy with the bloke who I saw on tele last night instead thanks.

It was a landmark chapter in AFL history, and Paul handled Sheahan's question with his typical aplomb and then named names why he was selected over Wallace - and the names were.............................................. ............................................... ALL OF US!!!! Well he didn't go through the whole supporter base, but we knew he was talking about.

I'd be pretty pissed not getting a mention if I was the dog at the front of the SCG.

He was an integral part of the Roos coup.

                    Woof.

The draft is always tough to get right - and from memory there were issues surrounding Franklin in the lead-up to the draft. It is a gamble either way - and they have lost more often than not. Brett Delidio has won their last two B&Fs, so he has been a good pick overall (taken as a priority pick the same year as Tambling), however he was also chosen over Roughhead - was that also the wrong call? You can build a team around a power forward - which is what Roughhead will likely become, can you do the same around a player like Delidio (time will tell of course).

Either way, Richmond have been rubbish in just about all aspects of running a football club for nearly 30 years. Wallace tried - and he was certainly passionate about his job, but it just didn't work out. Hopefully Hardwick (and others) can turn the club around - they should be playing better than they are regardless of perceived drafting mistakes - it is only 18 against 18 on the ground at any one time after all.

Short answer is - yes - Richmond buggered up. Everyone targets Tambling, but Delidio is a streaky player who runs downhill well, but will never be half the players either Roughead or Franklin are. Winning two B&Fs at Richmond is like me boasting I can beat my grandma in an arm wrestle.
