The Swans are a far different team now but Coach Roos used his "cattle" wisely back then. Stay close in a low scoring match, then come over the top with Captain Kirk's leadership and the fitness that Stewie Maxfield brought to the club - with generous contributions from the now be-kenneled Large Professor.

Going in, Saints sans Slick Nick AND given last week's form, lose on paper. They kept a crap contest close and contrary to the concept of coming over the top they kept their cool when the Doggies started biting and sucking like vampires. I thought the Doggies had it when Nicky D sent ANOTHER Saint kick OOF on the wing.

That said, even for that type of gameplan - tonight's game was nowhere near as enthralling as the Swans-Illegals' grannys. Crap footy, fact fans fact. As a Swans supporter I loved the game and postgame, was heartened and encouraged to hear Lethal Lee ask (something like) : Are you factin' tellin' me these are two top four teams???

A real arm-wrestle, but the extra speed made it messier. Clangers galore from sides with supposedly superior skills.

Worst game since Port v St Kilda last week. At least last week they had excuses about a windswept and occasionally damp Footy Park. No excuses for either team last night except that neither team wanted to take the game on, instead wanted to play a possession game and doing it poorly....very poorly.

I missed the first half so wondered if the general ordinariness of the game was because they were worn out. Was that the case?
It was exciting for about 10 minutes. Good win in the end by the Saints. Did what they had to do. Schneids instrumental in getting the ball out for the final goal.

Now all the Saints need is for Andy D to come out and bag their game plan and they'll go on to win a premiership... oh wait, it's been done.

I know they must be missing Riewoldt terribly - he's a huge loss and Kosi doesn't appear to have the same level of consistency. Haven't seen their last 2 games but the severe drop in scoring output the past couple of weeks suggests a lack of confidence. They're still a flag threat because they're so well-drilled, but without Riewoldt it might not be enough, given he's going to miss a huge chunk of the season.

It was a lot like Sydney played a few years back, except maybe Sydney were a little more drilled and a little more accomplished at playing keepings off. It is clearly something that Rocket taught Roos and Roos taught Lyon.

I don't think the words Kosi and consistency should be used in the same sentance.

It was a shocker. I listened to the first half on MMM, where Lyons, Brayshaw, Dunstall were mercilessly bagging the game. I switched on the TV for the last quarter. I thought Cometti and co.were extremely mild in their criticisms of the game.

The blurb for Roos' appearance on Open Mike said:

A candid Sydney Swans coach Paul Roos sits down with Mike Sheahan and explains why he is walking away from football at the end of this year and admits the Swans have played terribly under him despite a premiership.

Hehe - I like Kosi but he is pretty frustrating to watch!

You think? I didn't see any evidence of that last night save for the last five minutes.

Yeah, didn't see the game but just commenting on their backline in general over the past couple of years - they are still a hard team to score against and that will keep them in a lot of games IMO.

Come on, give Roos a little bit more credit than that! I think he got the team functioning as a unit more effectively than Eade did, but that's just IMHO. You're more than welcome to disagree with me.

Basically Roos admitted there have been games under him where we have played terrible football. The wording there is a little misleading because Roos clearly states there were times we were terrible, not that we were always terrible.

I was talking style of play. Clealry much more goes into success than just the game plan, and that Roos did it better than Eade at Sydney is without question. I just think that there is an element of consistency between Eade, Roos and Lyon in terms of style of play. That both Eade and Lyon have spent time at Sydney (with Roos the link between them) suggests that there is an element of passing styles through the ranks.

I thought it was an enthralling game. So much pressure that clean possessions were like gold. It was intense from start to finish, and a short burst from the Saints was the difference. I'd be more than happy to see more games played out the same way.

I watched on and off - I just couldnt believe the score line - so I flicked over the the rugby league, UKTV, Lifestyle, even the Weather Channel got a run, went back to the game - geez another 2 points scored who hoo! - it was tedious. I just couldnt believe the number of turnovers from both sides - yet when the ball became clear it moved so fast, perhaps too fast that forced the errors. I'm pretty sure that the midfields for both sides would have been absolutely buggered after it.

Boring as bat@@@@. The two teams in the last decade that have been variously described as ugly and boring have one person in common. Ross Lyon.

I have said it before, if they want to blame someone, blame him. The gane was about as entertaining as a night out with him would be........boring.
