Kick to Kick - is there any rhyme or reason as to when it is on or off

    Kick to Kick - is there any rhyme or reason as to when it is on or off

    I bought a mate a Sherrin and took him to a Swans game for his Birthday last year - no kick to kick.

    A couple of weeks ago I went to a night game at the SCG - Kick to Kick was on, but I didn't take a ball.

    Then I take the same mate to the Brisbane game on Saturday night - he brings his birthday Sherrin and there is no kick to kick again!

    Is there any way to know if it will be on or off in advance of the game?

      I think someone flips a coin at half time.

      Probably due to the dew. Can't risk a multi-million dollar lawsuit if someone falls on the grass.

          The SCG Trust make the call on this one. We always want it, just a matter of whether or not we get the ok from them.

              For games at Homebush, it usually depends on whether this is a NRL game on the next day - if yes, then there's no kick to kick as they want to get onto the ground to start preparing it as soon as possible.

              I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

              If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

                  The turf was very wet ... the players ripped it up a bit - Bladdles especially. The SCG Trust normally don't let us on in conditions like that.
                  That turf is precious.
                  Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

                          If I'm not mistaken, the ground won't be used again for ANYTHING till we play Freo in two weeks, giving the turf plenty of time to recover.
                          It's bloody ridiculous!

                              It will be in 3 weeks when the SWans play on it next. There will be a Rugby League game at the SCG in two weeks to celebrate the 1969 GF.

                              It still is 2 weeks to that game and the ground would not have been damaged.

                                  That was a ridiculous decision on Sat night: no wonder we all booed loudly. There was no dew. Why were we let on after the Richmond game and not this one. Sometimes it makes sense but often it doesn't.

                                      I was wondering this too, but now it seems obvious. For the sake of the rest of us don't bring your mate or your footy to the game. Thanks.

                                          I've stopped bringing a ball simply because I can't tell when it's on or not. It'd be nice to get some advance notice, say 24 hours via email, if it was on. If the SCG Trust can't inform the club in that timeframe, close enough to account for adverse weather and all, it just adds to the theory that they're making it up as they go.

                                                          No, it rained on Friday and Saturday morning. It was a pretty cold saturday as well, so that accounts for the dew.
                                                          Have a look at the replay again, a lot of players were slipping and sliding.
