Its not a halucination Yuri, its Mr Darcy!!! My main man (he is gorgeous to look at), who is smart and fair, and will speak his mind and is not afraid to contradict the seeming "elders" in the call teams, no matter if some of our mob have accused him of fence sitting.....now we have to get him on the tribunal next season; some levelling of common sense is required, and he is the man for the job, even if he doesn't want it. (I hope you are impressed with the length of that sentance.

The story certainly has legs now - Before the Bounce and MMM's pre-game show both had segments covering the unfairness of the suspension (although stupid Gerard Whatley thought that it was fine), as well as the ones earlier in the week (On the Couch, etc).
The annoying aspect is that it takes the suspension of a player (our player) before the story really becomes an issue - if the report rather than the suspension had been the issue we may have fared better at the tribunal.Comment

I think (having just watched franklin tackle someone in the slinging style and the hawks kicking a goal as a result ) that I have really only now understood my dislike of the rule - it is that the tackle is a legal tackle - it is lawful but if through bad luck the head hits the ground it ceases to be legal. It is actually the consequences of the tackle and this doesn't make any sense. The argument that culpable driving or negligent driving is an appropriate analogy seems wrong to me - there needs to have been some prior illegality.Comment

I like Gerard Whatley, think he is extremely intelligent and gets the game, but he really did lose credibility on this issue when on Before the Bounce he said that Mumford's size was, and should be a major factor in the suspenion. The boys got stuck into him about that. - a tackle is a tackle!
If the tackle wasn't on Ablett, I am confident it wouldn't have been the issue it was. Roughing up Ablett seems to send some in the Melbourne AFL media into a spin, I just think some find it difficult to believe someone can fairly get the better of him...Comment

Wow Al, that is a REALLY low blow! As far as I can tell, he understands the game, doesn't talk in constant cliches, can string two words together that make sense, can back up most of his opinions with the facts, doesn't screech and most importantly, is an Old Royboy!Comment

I usually enjoy his commentary and analysis too, but he can be monumentally stupid at times. It's a bit of a shock when it happens because he's usually so measured and balanced. What makes it worse is that he argues his case with such eloquence and persuasiveness, but on this issue he's so far wrong it's not funny. Not funny at all. Mumford's absence has been devastating for us, and given that tackling is such a major part of his repertoire, who knows what this suspension will do to his confidence? It's a freaking disgrace.Comment

I have never actually heard him call a game, but I do recall his time as a sports news reporter for channel ten in which he manipulated his voice in such a strange way in order to try and sound like a typical TV newsman (non-natural cadence, elongating certain sounds, etc) but all he managed to do was sound very odd - I used to comment to my partner about it every time he came on as I just could not understand why someone would do that (and not be able to pick up that they sounded so bizarre). I assumed someone must have been coaching him to do it that way, but I could never work it.
I was glad when he left Ten, but was very surprised when I learnt that he had gone to the ABC and was their number 1 broadcast caller - and that people actually liked his style.Comment
