How does this contrast with Goode's 2008 essay in which he wrote
"I know that when Aborigines play Australian Football with a clear mind and total focus, we are born to play it."
    ?

When interview on TV he also said:
"When we play football, there's that connection to the land that we are on and the way that we play."
"When you see two brothers or three brothers playing on the same team, you can just see this natural ability shine through.
"I think that comes from thousands and thousands of years of history there."

It doesn't at all. Goodes never said that indigenous players don't have a special spark about them. Just that it does actually take a lot of hard work to be able to show that at the highest level, which is often overlooked.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

I don't think there's any doubt that Indigenous footballers do have a certain quality that makes them stand out from the crowd. Goodes' point is that there's a lot of hard work for this quality to be able to be shown on the big stage. Freakish or no freakish ability you still need to put in the hard yards to be fit enough to play AFL football.

            Bump...

Nice work by the Before the Game team last night with their headlines of the week: "Even Rioli's punches were silky"
