Yep, Pyke got better as the game went on. Sandilands certainly was not the reason we lost.

So if Kennelly and Bradshaw miss a few, who comes in? Mumford obviously, but who next? White?

i reckon pyke done amazingly well today, Sandilands hasn't had the influence today...that goes to the umps.....critical free kicks that just take the wind out of our sails all day just as we started to get on top with a goal....did those 3 think umpire appreciation was this week or something....

Pyke was average. Sandilands just didn't play that well.

If we are going to play a 2nd ruck next week then I would go with Playfair or White. Pyke isn't good enough IMO.

Freo wanted it more than we did today. Simple as that really. We were always under pressure when we got the footy.

I thought Pyke really took it to Lurch. Won quite a few contests. Maybe that will be his breakthrough game?

LRT was terrific, Rohan has cemented a spot on the 22 after today. Jetta needs something.. I don't know what.. Henry wasn't too bad for all the bagging he cops on here.. O'Keefe must be playing with an injury. Bradshaw must not have been right and in hindsight shouldn't have played. Jack is turning into a good consistent player.. Lets hope we can get back of the canvas for the poos and wees..

feels like everything that can go wrong goes wrong. Free kicks at exact moment you dont want one against you and a goal from it, players getting injured or a niggle here and there, odd selections, playing good teams. Frustrating period of the season.

Positives from today...Pyke- i was surprised at his ruck and effort to keep sandilands out of the game.

Rohan- makes mistakes but attacks the ball and looks a future star

jetta- i may be the only one but i thought playing as a forward he looked good, just needs that damn goal to get going up there.

finally i would highlight hannenberry , jack and smith for their efforts during the game. Others just went missing, some were downright stupid, shaw annoyed me today, bevan is a complete waste of space. I think playfair is a dud, but to be fair to him thought he tried hard and gave a contest, liked him better as a key forward.

Is our half back line sponsored by the wing on the interchange side of the ground? i hope they know you can go down the middle of the ground occasionally, dont have to always hug the boundry.

I will say the score looks worse due to the late dockers goals, after half time we did lift, just never got the run on the scoreboard that we needed.

I just want to see us with a few players back, but i think at best we are a struggling finalist

i also obviously was happy with malceski today he stood up well, lrt on pav worked well too.

Jetta looked very dangerous when he played up forward. We want him to be getting the pill on the half forward line which is where he is threatening.

Don't know how it looked on t.v., but we played that static game we've played for the past couple of weeks. It almost looks like a lack of interest, but more likely a lack of cohesion and nous.

From a live perspective, Pyke had a much better game and is starting to read the play a lot better. I wouldn't be surprised if O'Keefe is carrying an injury as his impact is noticeably less at the moment.

McVeigh was good in patches, but pretty well held once again.

There were some very strange umpiring decisions. Umpire no. 27 called holding the ball every time we got near it, yet not the other way. It's the inconsistency and the way these erroneous decisions affect the flow of play that is frustrating.

Overall, we looked an inferior team to the Dockers. Pavlich carved us up in the first half and we never really recovered.

It will be tough without Kennelly and Bradshaw - at least McGlynn will probably be back next week and I guess Jesse could come in for Bradshaw (if he's out).

We seem to lack a bit of leadership at the moment.

I thought our second half was really promising. We really lifted, and if it weren't for the fact that Bradshaw was on the sidelines and it started raining, we would have got right back in it. Would we have won it? Difficult to tell, probably not, but it would have been a lot closer.

First half was poor but at least everybody was putting the effort in. Key disposal errors meant we just put ourselves to the sword.

How good was Rohan? And Hanners? And Smith? And Jack? Jetta's third quarter wasn't too shabby either. Campbell Heath was solid on debut, looked like he was a touch behind the pace of the game but worked into it well. Certainly tackled hard. I reckon he'll be a good solid player. Grundy started poorly on Pav but worked back into the contest and held him well. LRT was shaky early but again worked right back into it and was very good in the second half. Malceski was possibly BOG, he was fantastic.

Also, Goodes has been absolutely MASSACRED by the umpires this year. Horrible. If he had gotten half the frees he should have this year, he'd be one of the best performed CHFs in the competition. As it is, he needs to push into the midfield just to get a touch because defenders are allowed to be all over him and nothing gets paid, but if he even touches one back, it's a free against. Unbelievable. And people say he's a protected species.

Plenty of positives to be taken out of that match, particularly the second half. I know it's fashionable to be wrist-slitting after a loss here, but we weren't bad. Injuries went against us. Umpiring went against us. The weather went against us. And admittedly, early on we went against us. But the footy we played in the second half was good footy, all things considered.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

Freo are also a real premiership chance IMO. They are playing premiership footy atm.

Yeah - I am not too disheartened. First half was lousy but they clearly kicked themselves in the backside at half-time and the second half showed a definite increase in intensity. If you believe in the mantra that a team starts a game the way it finished the previous one, I think we can get back on track next week.

Main problem seems to be that we're not getting enough from the senior midfield group. Macca was OK in patches but Jude and ROK have definitely dropped off since their multiple hits on the head. Forward line is a bit of a worry, especially with Bradshaw's injury, but I definitely think Goodes should spend more time there. For whatever reason, things aren't quite clicking for him as a forward at the moment (notwithstanding his 4 goals last week - most of them were scored when the game was already over).

I haven't read through the entire thread so can someone enlighten me with details on Kennelly?

                            Well, that was fun....

I thought Pyke was OK, he certainly was reasonably effective when it came to nullifying the tap domiance, and it generally was a 50/50 for the midfield, but watching him around the ground can be frustrating and his decision making. Jetta frustrated me so much, he did a couple of exciting things, but he can be so lazy off the ball and his skills are up and down.

Gary Rohan is starting to excite me, can't wait to see him in full flight on a dry track when we are playing better. Quick and pretty smart. LRT, everyone that sits near me bags the crap out of me, but geez we would miss him.

Thank god Freo missed so many early opportunities, we were at real risk of a huge qtr margin.

Can't be bothered thinking about anyone else, the tactics, the outs, the ins or the injuries. Season 2010 is close to on the line next week, we need to find something in that game to get back some confidence and resolve. I fear though, we will play the Hawks back into form.....

If you go over our 22 players today there were more good players than bad players IMO. Fremantle's pressure and accountability was outstanding today.

I completely agree, I think he's going to be a match winner. For a guy with a light frame he knew twice in the space of a few minutes that he was about to be hit when kicking the ball and both times he didn't care and just focused on the kicking motion- that takes a lot of guts when you've only played a handful of games. There was also a goal to Kieran Jack that came from a Freo turnover, that turnover was caused by Rohan not giving up on a passage of play and chasing down a Docker that spilled a hurried handball... completely instinctive stuff... very exciting young player.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time
