I'm through taking AFL too seriously the game is becoming too soft for my liking I began lose interest the 1st round against St Kilda when I was watching the game on TV but not enjoying it because of the poor umpiring and commentating.
I'm a member of The Swans, Subiaco & Port Magpies next year I'm joining the Waratahs as well because I find myself watching more of it and enjoying the commentating and even the umpiring.Comment

The A(V)FL media is currently out of control. Too may jobs for the boys and ex players thinking their opinions matter is making following footy unbearable. It's always been like this in melbourne, but the off field dramas taking a front seat during the week is now way over the top.
Content providers are now desperately finding any bit of content to fill their news sources.Comment

Just the point i was making and being ultra defensive to moot. I will leave your provincial way of thinking as that. You really did lose me at your professional help comment.
As i said all my comments come from my observations and dealings with vic footy fans. I can't change what i see but just offer a dialogue. I am hardly projecting anything as you claim, but thanks none the less.
Anyway back to the umpires.
As I indicated last post, I agree with you about a lot ...particularly the umpiring. I don't understand why you weaken fundamentally good points with sweeping generalisations that are irrelevant to your argument and exhibit the very same prejudices you seem to attribute to and find annoying in others. My opinion is objective truth in its purest formComment

But in 2010 I have changed my mind about trying to minimise the frees. It now seems to me that the frees against and when and where they are paid or not paid are essentially out of our control and firmly in the hands of the umpires. I.e. If we break the rules, a free is payable, no problem. If both players contesting the ball break the rules it's out of our hands who gets pinged. Hall penalised for Sydney, exactly the same play for Dogs not penalised. I remember an umpire awarding a free against Hall for a handball that technically was a handball, the umpire agreed when Hall protested and said something like pretty sloppy handball (I can't remember the exact words). Swans players given the benefit of the doubt? Not in the opponent's 50 and not in ours when the scores are close. Inconsistency within games etc. It's all been spelt out elsewhere on RWO.
The point? We just need to accept that we have to play blitzingly well, beyond the control of the umpires. Accept that we will no longer win the close fought games because of umpiring trends. We have to avoid reports and MRP scrutiny. And when all this comes to fruition, the AFL will find another way to screw us.Comment

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

Number 1 (I can't be bothered looking him up) is a bastard who could have a few weeks cooling down as well.
(I went to the AFL website - cause it's lazy not looking it up - and couldn't find a 2010 umpires list. Am I missing something?)Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment
