Melbourne After Match Function

I went to my first after match function at the MCG yesterday.

What a bloody difference to the dribble they put together for Sydney after matches!!!!

MOST of the senior players were there, all seated along long tables for people to line up to say g'day and get signatures.

We're very lucky if we get a reserve player.

A great arvo (despite losing).

We presented Adam Goodes with the 2009 Troy Luff Medal. He asked "Is this from last year?" When we said yes, he was pretty chuffed to receive his third medal.

I suppose Goodes wasn't expecting a medal after yesterdays performance.

I don't go to after match functions, but if that's the norm and not just a one off then that really is pretty crap (for Sydney folks that like the post matches, great for Melbourne folks!).

Before anyone whinges, I'd think the same if there was that big a difference in favour of Sydney.

Attended a few Swans functions, including one where the players were roped off in a separate section. Apart from the 25th Anniversary Dinner (where our premium seats were worse than some of the cheapest and the whole event was held in a tent in pouring rain) the rest I attended were crap. Was to attend last years' Club Champion but the date was moved, so I couldn't go. It will take a lot of persuading (and probably free tickets and a few other goodies) to tempt me again.

I have to agree Annie that was very impressive.
What I hate is having to go back to the SCG after a weekend being spoiled at Etihad on Sat night and then the MCG on Sun.

Its hard isn't it. I also went to Etihad on Saturday night- $20 for a ticket on the 3rd tier- it is a sensational place to watch footy. The MCG is just the MCG. But I do love the SCG as well, but its not quite the same as the two premier venues in the AFL.

Most of the players will always attend the after match functions in Melbourne thanks to the team having to stay together and catch a flight home, in Sydney we are rarely going to get the majority of players there, put blunty whoever goes is forced to by the club, they would rather get home I'd say! I would think sitting down talking footy and signing autographs may just well be the last thing players want to do after a match.

I think the club should be a little bit more generous with the player rotation they do for After Matches in Sydney though, or they might as well not do it at all.

I've said a gazillion times that Melbourne is FANTASTIC ... the only problem is that it's too far from the city.

I always love my trips to Melbourne. It makes me sad when I go to the MCG and Docklands knowing I've got to come back and endure that hole which is ANZ stadium. Love the SCG though, although a roof would be nice.

The problem with the aftermatches in Sydney is that most of them are designed to be held at Kings Cross.....yeah sure, like I want to spend more and more money travelling to KC, my favourite venue in the whole world, and where I welcome the chance to walk the sleezy streets of Underbelly Land in my Swans gear, chat to the druggies, rouseabouts and prostitutes. I also get to add an extra hour to travelling home as well as piled on extra expense.

And the aftermatch at the Noble is a tryhard, but its not good enough. Not any more. It could be run so much tighter that's for sure. Having to wait and wait for .... what? listening to the juniors is nice, but then you have to race to get to the last bus and the senior player roped in or the assistant coach hasn't made it yet......and all suddenly there is noone at the aftermatch to listen to them anyway......someone has to shake this up a bit, that's for sure.

Do I sound precious? Not entirely. Perhaps we want this club associated with Kings Cross.....but I have never liked the place, and I just can't see Hanners, Cambo, Kirky, Goodsey, Smiffy et al doing so either. Or maybe its just me.
