Why does SEN reference it? Heck BF also helped in removing a SEN host due to the bad rep he was getting on BF.
If you hate Melbourne so much - move, no one is making you stay there.!

And it seems to be the swan fans who live in Sydney who seem to disagree and cannot understand that it happens in melbourne.
As i said melbourne is an awesome footy crazy city provided:
      • You follow one of the local sides - then you would love melbourne
      • You are able to ignore non swans news and the constant heckling because you just love footy and love the culture.
Again it's your experience and yourassuming that it's the norm. It's perfectly normal to think that but it's ridiculous to say to people that you are wrong because they haven't experienced what you have. I know I'm only a behind clapper from Sydney but I know many Melbourne people and have visited Melbourne on many occassions for footy and other things and I can tell you what you experience isn't the norm.

I read the Age on a regular basis. It's amazing the technology we have these days where we can read another cities newspapers.

I think after living in both cities for a large amount of time and experiencing everyday life as opposed to just visiting my views are spot on. I too used to just visit the city and was so charmed by the people and the place i moved here. Once i had to deal with the people, especially during the footy season that charm was quickly eroded. Sure there are nice people here..but i find those who don't eat @@@@ sleep and talk footy, which is a tiny %, are really nice. Most of the non swans people i have meet have been complete arseholes when it comes to footy..and in this city no matter where you go who you meet everything is footy!

Honestly if you cop so much grief - I'd suggest you seek new friends or colleagues - otherwise, if you react the way you do to these things, then they are just egging you on to get a reaction.

I did live in melbourne - East St Kilda actually - you'd probably have a problem with that too. (not that anyone here has to answer too you) I went to many games at Moorabin, the Western Oval , Princes park & the MCG - yes it was in the mid 80's - and no one gave me a hard time for following league as well as VFL (as it was then)

So? I work with scientists, as i work for MV and their research department. As intelligent as they are, when it comes to footy they are pricks, just like everyone else.

I used to live in windsor. 1985 would have been a great time living around this area, drug addicts, punks, the ballroom, arty students all shacked up in terraces and workman cottages, st kilda and trevor barker. Plus no perceived threat from those pesky @@@@ who watch soccer and RL is a sydney game. No Interstate sides too..except a relocated melbourne team. Lifes good in melbourne in 1985!

wow it must be hard being so totally pissed off with the world 24/7 - I think you need some anger management classes
Gee I never experienced any of those things on Alma road (Nth Caulfied end) it was very civilised actually - close enough to pubs etc, but far enough away from St Kilda & Windsor that we didnt come into contact with the type of poeple you seem to be so familiar with. You know - you can choose your friends, (but we all know that one cant choose one's relatives).

But you know - suggest that if someone (who follows another team) says something that you dont like about the Swans - then just ignore them, just accept that they are ignorant and move on - they will give up after a while and lose interest, but if you keep getting upset the way you do - you will give yourself an ulcer.

It just dawned on me that maybe the people around KS are taking the piss knowing he'll bite in a big way. I'm a big sledger and it only works on people who react.

I'd love to know how you approach these thousands of conversations with the AFL Hardcore if Sydney and League are being attacked so often in your presence? I can't imagine it's coming up in these conversations randomly.

That sounds pompous but hardly surprising really. I was actually making reference to you maybe being a student at the time due to this area being a hub for arty type students in the mid 80s. Windsor is quite upmarket these days and was when i lived there. And no i don't associate with junkies or "the type of people" as you put it.

And that's why swans fans are perceived the way they are in melbourne, someone needs to stick up for the rubbish i hear constantly about my team. I walk away most times but i love seeing the reaction when i open a can of woopass on them with my knowledge and sharp tongue. Silly way to get some respect.

You really need to live and work in melbourne to experience how football somehow finds it way into any conversation. It's complete opposite to what it is in sydney thats for sure. As for the League being attacked it all starts with it being called rugby..and when corrected it doesn't make a difference as it's still referenced as Rugby...

Pompous - thanks for that - my parents would be right chuffed. All those deportment lessons and finishing school in Switzerland has finally paid off.

No chance my dear, like the code we both love if you back away from a contest then you are severely judged. You need to go in and win the hard ball to gain respect in this city!

Mate i dont know what your on about. If anything I've got a little bit more crediblity going for the swans because I support them passionately even without any allies in my circle of friends. Most of my mates respect the swannies as a team too, and are more than willing to chat about them with me, as i with thier team(s)
