How good was Jesse's handball whilst he was being ridden harder than Makybe Diva straight to Hanners for a goal in Q2? He's going along fine.

2. Where did I call for him to be dropped?
I guess the word 'stupid' could easily apply to your comments.Comment

Yes I am absolutely sure he will get better. I have just finished watching the game and find the Jesse bashing completely bizarre. would like to have played a bit better but he was actually reasonably good. A lot better than Goodes a couple of weeks ago. A lot better than the Port young talls. Will be an All Australian one day and you will be eating humble pie.
And Captain, your references to "just bringing the ball to ground" make you look stupid...watch the game and see all the other good stuff he did. Only a 4/10 I suppose, but lots of mitigating circumstances and absolutely no chance of being dropped.
And the thing about lots of small errors is that oyu only have to improve a tiny bit to have a massively different impact on the game. I deadset cannot believe that Riewolt is doing what he is doing. Seriously 6 weeks ago he would have been dropped from 15 other teams he was so woeful.
I will concede the one good handball.Comment

Just watched a replay, a few points to note in no particular order -
1. The commentators sucked.
2. Nick Smith is a champion. Needs a much lower number asap.
3. Rohan is going to be an exceptional leader.
4. Each of Bird, McGlynn and Vespremi performed the lead up half forward role better than Playfair.
5. White - I could play the Driver here, but will opt for the 3I - he played the game as if he was the third tall forward rather than the FF, which may be the problem he has had all year. At every opportunity he chose to play from behind. In the square 5m behind his man calling for the ball to be bombed in.
6. Malcheski BOG - Mattner had an excellent game, though had a more responsible role than Mal.
7. With Bird and Kennedy working the centre for the future, + Mumford we should be leading the league in clearances for the next 3-5 years.
8. With so many young players of quality ALL coming through together you can't help but think Dynasty!
9. Bevan was good. Played his role well, so much so he pissed of Motlop!
10. Vespremi was good. Looked like he belonged and had the confidence of his teammates, something that was noticably missing from MOD the previous week.
11. Mumford deserves his own point. Mummy is GOD!
12. Pyke demonstrated he's of AFL standard.
The End.The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.Comment

Yes Jesse White had an ordinary game, but he still stays in the best 22 each and every week.
Hypothetical: Lets say we play the pies in a fortnight's time, we drop White for Bradshaw and early on in the game, Bradshaw goes down and is injured for the rest of the game, ala freo game. What do we do then? We're stuffed. Sorry, it doesn't matter how good or bad he plays....he stays.Comment

Maybe its because Roosey was a backman who had no trouble going forward and nailing a goal? Whatever the reason, there seems to be some strange notion that a forward is there for some other reason than to kick goals. I hear all kinds of reasons, like applying forward pressure, holding the ball in the zone, bringing the ball to ground, presenting a big body (Playfair excuse) . As you say,The FF role is to mark the ball on a lead, turn around and boot a goal. Unless we kick goals we lose! The FF is the key goal sneak. Usually they are unusually talented at crafting goals out of nothing through superior ball handling and kicking skills. If Not they lead well, mark well and kick straight (eg Podsey for Geelong.) He makes it look as simple as it is.Kicking goals is ESSENTIAL in that role, the other skills are DESIRABLE. Fevola is the classic example of a lazy FF who still wins matches because he can do the ESSENTIAL thing and kick goals.Comment

Remember that for the past ten years Pods has been running around the VFL, we really have no idea what he was like when he was 22.Comment

Yeah good point. I also agree that White is a work in progress and could be anything and at this stage is worth perservering with. I was mainly agreeing with the notion that FF's should kick goals and was talking generally, not having a go at whitey.Comment

Just remember that Jesse is still raw talent. He should be serving his apprentice still but Braddy has been out. He's trying his best to fill a massive void in our forward line that he is probably not ready to take on at this stage.
Give him time, we're doing o.k given the circumstances in any case.Comment

I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment
