    Roosys Recycled Players

I was bored so thought id see how everyone rated the swans efforts under roos to recycle players from other clubs. Who do we think is the best, or will end up the best, what would we say is the success rate of this move. In brackets i put what we gave up for each

let me know if missed any

2002 draft- Nick Davis ( pick 21 Bo Nixon)
2003 Pre season- Craig Bolton (nothing)

2004 draft Darren Jolly (pick 15 lyndon dunn)
2005 draft Ted Richards (pick 19 & 50 courtenay dempsey and sam lonergan)
Paul Chambers (pick 35 stephen owen)
2006 draft Peter Everitt (pick 33 jaryd morton)
2007 draft Martin Mattner (pick 28 marlon motlop crows traded pick for symes)
Henry Playfair (pick 44 scott simpson)
2008 draft Rhyce Shaw & pick 61-campbell heath (pick 46 luke rounds)
2009 draft Mark Seaby & pick 55 dennis lane & pick 28 (buchanan pick 22 weedon & pick 118 no one)
Shane Mumford (pick 28 mitch duncan)
Ben Mcglynn & Josh Kennedy (pick 39 sam grimely pick 46 ben stratton and pick 70 matthew suckling)
    Daniel Bradshaw (nothing)

So to sum up the list of players is
    Nick Davis
    Craig Bolton
    Darren Jolly
    Ted Richards
    Paul Chambers
    Peter Everitt
    Martin Mattner
    Henry Playfair
    Rhyce Shaw
    Mark Seaby
    Shane Mumford
    Ben Mcglynn
    Josh Kennedy
    Daniel Bradshaw
Theres not much left to say

Nice work.... The early years were very good and last years was excellent. The middle years were woeful.....ie Chambers and Playfair..wasted picks, Everitt and Richards...too expensive

Think we paid overs for Teddy but he's played some good footy for the club. Still reckon Everitt was worth the punt.

Jolly was a gun and gave the club great service.

Rhyce was an absolute steal and I personally think he was the scapegoat for the off-field dramas at Collingwood in 2008.

Couldn't be happier with the players we picked up for this year.

Chambers and Playfair were poor recruits.

Craig Bolton has been a star, incredible to think that we got him in the PSD. We'd be 77 years without a flag if it wasn't for Davo, so obviously a great pick up.

      Excellent record really.

But don't the players actually taken with those picks indicate how much of a lottery the draft is, and hence suggest that we didn't really overpay? Of course, there is no guarantee (or even likelihood) that the Swans would have picked the same players had they kept the picks, but the names selected show how hit and miss things are, even by the time the second round comes along. Dan O'Keefe and Josh Willoughby indicate it is hit and miss even in the first round.

Bolton is the best of that lot by a long stretch but Mummy and Joey just may end up better i hope.

Davis ranks as high as anyone else for my money, unless any of the others win us a flag. He may have been lazy, not sufficiently team oriented etc, but a wonderful footballer.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Didn't BBB come in for 2002? Half a year with Rocket and then all Roosy.

Nic Davis for many reasons (namely four goals).
BBB for many reasons; he could be a class act at times.
Craig Bolton for being a class act, every single time he takes to the field. I can't believe we got him for zip
Rhyce Shaw was really cheap, and shows his appreciation for being rated by a good club and works his arse off for us.
Strongly feel Josh Kennedy is going to be a serious class act that just wasn't appreciated or utilised at Hawthorn. Like a bloke who plays with a smile on his face. Cheap as....
Somehow think Mummy may be the second greatest bargain though.

Isn't it amazing how people grow in personal stature when they are appreciated and given the chance to be the best they could be.

I was always sorry for Chambers. He was a lovely kid, and he did try, but he just didn't have the "it" factor, and pulled the plug himself once he knew he just wasn't going to cut it. Maybe that's why we did so well with Mummy! Geelong felt guilty about Chambers?/// Conspiracy theory being tacked up on the board here and now.

Davis by a mile, I know B2 is a champion and the better player but if it wasn't for Nick we'd still be waiting for that flag. You just need to watch that video again to remember how much he saved our arses!

Can't agree with that. B2 has been one of the stalwarts of the team for seasons. Nick's ego had him step up at exactly the right time so we have to love him despite everything else. It's like having two mates. One is like a brother, the friend who will go out of his way to help you move - and even carries the fridge up the stairs - and is always there for you when things go wrong. The other turns up late and drunk, entertains the hell out of you until dawn then asks for $20 for a cab home. You appreciate them both but know their contributions are unequal.

We probably would be. But we'd also be still awaiting if it wasn't for Baz and quite probably B2 also.

                      And Ablett.

I think we got Everitt a year too late.
Ted was good early and filled a void, in the early years, but now I think I would prefer either of Dempsey or Lonergan.

Henry and Donuts, for Owen and Simpson (Who and Who). Did we really lose out there?

The rest have been more than useful recruits.

Yes I agree it is an educated lottery. Easy in hindsight I know, but 07 and 08 should of been a 'restock with youngsters' period, as we already had a team full of veterans, and our team at that stage was on the slide. I'd rather we tried our luck in the draft rather than going for under performed (or old in Everitts case) top ups, with relatively early picks.

Craig Bolton is one of the great PSD stories of all time. A mile ahead of the others - but let's hope Josh Kennedy is our next draft captain-in-waiting.

As for the actual trades, you'd have to say Jolly was a very good result, that ultimately helped to lead to a flag - and in turn has delivered a little potential star called Lewis.

And Mumford. If Jolly hadn't left, would we have chased 2 Rucks?
