I'm so glad we're recognised in this story.Roos had already changed Sydney by the manner in which he'd won the coaching job. The Swans had wanted - and apparently signed - Terry Wallace. The fans rose up and demanded that Roos, the caretaker, get the gig. Sydney had never seen such a display of people power. It was a watershed moment in which the members and supporters asserted their ownership of the club.
Great read.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

Was one of the first victims post 2006 of Vlad speeding up of the game with his new rules. Poor Benny had no chance after that.Comment

He got a phone call from me plus an emailed petition with 50 names on it threatening to cut up our memberships.
Money talks ... bull@@@@ Wallace walks.

I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

I really hope that you are being sarcastic.
I think it was more to do what the players wanted and then the fans, overall, not just 50, that swayed the decision. Plus the reaction of the players at the end of that Richmond game.Comment

Roos - the coach who changed the game
My recollection was there was a massive ground swell of support from the fans and players. I emailed the club at the time to offer my support for Roos. I'm certain it was this email that swayed the board. lol..And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style.
