    Paul Roos the Malthouse Bunny

He may have said in 2005 - Here it is - as he accepted the 2005 Premiership Cup BUT that was also the last year that a team coached by him beat Collingwwod. Nine losses in a row, each loss the same as the loss before, would indicate that he has no idea how to out coach Malthouse.

It seems Ross Lyon had no problem with Geelong last night and the Demons twice this year have showed how to rattle the mugpies but our Pauly is not up to it.

He now has earned the Malthouse Bunny tag and can stick that up on the shelf with his Premiership coaching medal.

I can't recall another coach in this same situation.
In memory of my little Staffy - Dicey, 17.06.2005 to 1.12.2011- I'll miss you mate.

...and Ross Lyon bunny for that matter.

Roos has many strengths, but match day is not one of them. Tactically Roos is a very average coach. Last night's loss was as much his as anyone else's.

    1. Did nothing about Bird on Shaw for 2.5 quarters. Clearly a poor match up as Shaw has more leg speed and Bird is a better centre than a forward. When Bird sent to centre, it was part of the reason we started to play better.
    2. Allowed O'Brien to run rampant without tagging him out of the backline.
    3. Goodes clearly struggling in the forward line yet only moved on the ball late in the game.
4.Game started with Malceski on Brown - poor match up. Then Mattner moved to him, not much better.
    5. Why did he even pick Bevan?
    6. Shaw was concussed and clearly not playing well, but left on. His disposal after the concussion was rank.
    7. The game plan looked exactly the same as the plan that has lost us the last 8 games (or whatever the record is). His belief has always been to stick to his formula. Roos is a bit of a fuddy duddy on his game plan. We need to recognise that the game has evolved a lot since circa 2005. Evolve or die.

Malthouse is a very smart match day coach - put him up there with Eade (note our record against the Bulldogs is not much better than Collingwood). Ditto Lyon, who is very good on match day. Up against any coach who of this ilk, and Roos struggles and always has struggled.

    No one's perfect.

Watching us play Collingwood is Groundhog Day. Every game against them now looks just like the last one. And there is no Plan B.

He was trying hard with the matchups all night, swapped many times so it wasn't for a lack of trying. Collingwood are a well-drilled side, they break incredibly quickly when they win the ball, or when they look like they're going to win the ball. This creates enough space for their players to run clear of their Swans opponent who were too slow to react. The other aspect of their game where they have been well coached is from the kick-ins. They set up their 18 man zone very quickly, of course helped by our slowness in kicking out, but also I noticed that they set up the zone even when their player taking the set shot.

No, he's not Lyon's bunny....we may not be beating St. Kilda either...but we are at least on the same same ball park.

Against Collingwood we (and HE) are so exposed as clueless pretenders. To not have had one single actual match in 9 games of football is an absolute indictment. To not have developed ANY PLAN AT ALL FOR KICKING THE BALL IN in 8 years is a disgrace. He has a reputation for honesty and I'm genuinely surprised he doesn't seem to have the balls to admit that he is not up to it and resign immediately. Seriously he should be thinking "If I can't get these players to play anywhere near their ability, even with everything on the line and the big build up, then clearly I have to admit failure and let someone else try."

Some say that it isn't the coaches fault if good players keep missing targets....well actually that is the coaches only real job....to get players to perform to their potential.

I have had the temerity to criticize the coaches who I think get an arm chair ride from this forum. As stated above many coaching errors occurred but none of them as fatal as the inability to train the forward line to lead and train the midfield to kick. We could not string 3-4 possessions together without turning it over. Why not?
1.Forwards leading straight at the ball carrier. As a forward you should bias your lead left or right(like Bradshaw does).coming straight at the ball carrier makes it hard for him to judge distance and forces him to keep the ball horizontal..not always easy!
              2. Mid field delivery failing to push the ball to one side of the forward so the defender has no chance.Instead, setting the forward up to have the defender smash the ball away.

Both of the above are training drills that coaches need to drill into the team! No excuses..these faults probably cost us 4-5 goals.
the other coaching embarassment were the kick ins, just as well nobody knows what the#$%^ is happening here as there appears no plan,no formula.nothing.

I thought Roosey game day coached better this time.Tried a few things! I caught some criticism for praising Malthouse as a coach and The Pies as a disciplined side.Geez..its there for all to see! They have players we would like White to be or Jetta to be.Definately a better side coached better, hence we lost ..again!

This irked me the most last night, O'Brien was allowed to play the loose/unmarked man in defence role that Maxwell typically plays and either Roos was comfortable with him (O'Brien) doing that or just didn't realise it. Fatal error of the night in my opinion.

The thing that I couldn't believe is how he kept Goodes up forward for so long when quite frankly he was a complete non factor.

see my comments in other Roos thread. I agrre he is lacking something on match days now. Too slow with changes for Shaw and Obrien Melbourne played man on man and probably should have won in end.

I must admit to being absolutely stunned to hear about Roosy going mental at quarter time.

I was at the game and didn't realise until I read the paper yesterday that it had happened.

What pissed me off most is we continue this ineffective short pass football all the time.

It worked for us in 2005 but the game has changed since then.

I could be wrong, but I dont think worsfold has beaten malthouse since around 05-06 either.

Hoss Longmire is to blame - All Roos did was some good old fashioned cussing during the breaks and from the side line...
