Rhyce Shaw is a liability!

I don't really understand the Shaw hate. I think he's fairly reasonable. He's playing in an underdone side which is rebuilding. His kicking at goal is woeful, but he IS a defence player. Ideally, he'd be kicking to targets in the forward line, which we don't seem to have. FWIW, Jetta is a backman as well. I don't expect defenders to kick goals. That's what Forwards are for.Comment

Gee Troyjones2525, ScottH and CJK you are lucky for the treatment you have received here! I made a similar comment about Shaw last year and I was absolutely villified and abused by the RWO intelligentsia . Where are you Goswannie14 and Bas? Here is Goswannie14's gem (from 14 May 2009):
"I think we have a new leader in "The most stupid thread of the season" competition.
I would suggest the thread starter should actually watch the game next week before making a comment. On the other hand they could also realise that everyone makes mistakes.....like was made in starting this thread.Shaw has been a great pick-up for us and he has been the perfect replacement for Kennelly, who incidently, caused some turnovers from time to time whikst (sic) he was a Swan. "
And this from Bas:"He wins the most stupid thread of the season and it's only Rd 8.Shaw will win Swans Best and Fairest in 2009."
Josh Fraser on the One HD show last night made particular reference to the improvement in Shaw's kicking this year.Has there been a better pick up by another Club?"

Think you are referring to Kennelly of old, at least Shaw gets the pill and takes the game on.Comment

At the time this thread was started Shaw was ripping it up. With the return of Malcheski and Tiger he has become a playing backup. The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.Comment

Rhyce Shaw....dud pickup?

I reckon that this is due to a number of factors. I reckon there are three:
1. apart from shaw we lack running defenders. Part of what was letting Kennelly down in the last couple of years was he would handball to a player in the midfield looking for the 1-2 but the opposition were sweating on his first handball a lot more. When both leo and tadgh were running out of defence there was a lot of heart in mouth moments but it was fast in the corridor risk-taking and the opposition was often unsure who to follow. When it was tadgh alone there was a lot more pressure on the receiver of the looping handpass.
2. The development in the last 5 years of the small but extremely quick forward pocket whose job it is to stop half bank flankers from running has tended to mean that most clubs aren't getting the same run and carry as in the past. I reckon the leo/tadgh problems started to emerge when (in particular) they started having collingwood forwards chase from behind a lot more
3. the absence of genuinely quick swans midfielders means its harder to get the ball into space. Fosdike, williams, crouch all could be quick across the lines meaning that the opposition had to follow these players opening up space. Our current midfield lacks pace and that brings more players into confined areas.Comment

Our kick-ins have never been great, but they have been terrible the past 2 years because of one man...Nic Fosdike.
The amount of times Fossie ran to make space and give Kennelly and Malceski a get-out target was staggering.
It's rarely, if ever, mentioned.Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09Comment

15 teams in the comp see the kick in as dynamic. Swans see it as static. Set all the pieces up, then pull the trigger.
The ball should be on the move before the umpire stops waving the flags (whoever's closest takes it - even if it's LRT), worry about all else later...they changed the rule for a reason!
The Zone Defense today means there is no space for Fossie.Last edited by Bloody Hell; 6 July 2010, 07:52 PM.The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.Comment
