    One year too long...

After yesterdays showing I am convinced that Brett Kirk should have retired last season.

Two bad plays cost us the game in the dying minutes. Right in front of us, a Richmond player ran around Kirk to set up a goal when Kirk couldn't rise above a jog or even threaten him. Then minutes later, when we had the opportunity to clear the ball out of defence and possibly score to seal the game, Kirk kicked a dinky little kick which allowed Richmoind to keep the ball in their attacking 50 and goal.

Sad to see this from a servant of the club, but will be glad to see him go as now he is TO OLD and TOO SLOW.

He probably should swap roles with McGlynn. If he played out of the Fwd Pocket he might be able to teach the other forwards about fwd pressure and maybe kick a goal or two.
Benny would be just so much better in the Mid IMO.

I have my doubts - kirk is best in the confined spaces where his opponent simply cannot put the afterburners on - forward pocket has too much space for the forward to run away from him.

I think we have to acknowledge that he simply has lost two yards from an already very slow body and he has been playing much more negatively this year - which has meant that his ability to get the ball has been shackled - there are simply not enough brock mclean and sam mitchell types for kirk to play on any more.

Two bad misses by Shaw cost us in the opening minutes. Convert those and the young tiggers might and been started to doubt themselves and the Swans would have been confident.

He played a great game on Swallow the first time against the Roos this year.

Once finals are beyond reach I think he should retire straight away.

Fair enough. What's he ever done for us that deserves some loyalty? Logically, shouldn't it be the other way around - get rid of him if we are going to be playing finals so the kid that replaces him carries us to the Grand Final?

On a practical note, as the Swans are heavily promoting the Dogs game at the SCG as the last for Roos and Kirk in Sydney, I doubt we can throw him on the scrapheap as quickly as you'd like.

kirk is gone as a midfielder but how about taking him out of the thick of it and playing him up forward and down back even for tackling pressure. Give him a bit more bench time. Roosy stills uses him as a number one tagger pretty much. I think he deserves a bit of a break.

If you were being honest, Goodes 2 misses when we were on top are more serious than misses early in the game. We would have been 45 points up and game over. Apart from those 2 misses, Shaw was in our best few yesterday.

I tend to agree but I also agree Roos has gone one year too long as well!! He has a real attitude that comes across as it he does not really care anymore. He is more pre-occupied setting up for his job promoting AFL in the USA!!!

I don't want to say it either, but you could be right. Or it is up to the coaches to make Kirky come off and only play 60% of a quarter each quarter, and rest the poor blighter. However, in the dying moments the one bloke you want out there is Kirky, and he is probably the one bloke who is the hardest to come the heavy with as he has such belief in himself. Partial plug pulling is required, but by no means total. It would do more harm than good.

I think you are probably right, and agree with Aardvark and Primmy - play him forward more, and cut his on-ground time. But in a tight game like yesterday's, I'd like him to spend the last 4-5 minutes in the centre clinches and feeling a bit fresher.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

With 1 1/2 miutes left in the match we were down by 4 still enough time for a goal the camera switched to Roosy who looked like he had conceded he was just standing there looking miserable. Then it panned to Hardwick who was still ringing the changes, that about sums up the game we gave in to easy
