at the risk of sounding like a pyke basher the man has taken 23 marks for his entire career and kicked one goal, how has he got the makings of a CHF?

1. He is very big.
2. He is fast and agile.
3. His marks may be (at this stage) few in number but they are high in quality.
4. He is a good kick, and has been for a while, but may need to develop further confidence.
5. He seems to be a phenomenally fast learner with powerful concentration.
6. His sense of where to go on the field is increasing exponentially.
7. He really enjoyed kicking that goal.
8. I enjoy watching him do his stuff.

isn't pyke still only on the senior list as seaby and bolton are on the long term injury list so when they come back pyke will have to drop back anyway?

It's definitely not out of the question in a year or two! He has a great set of hands and can kick the ball but just needs more confidence.

His reach, height and strong hands, coupled with the rules against defenders chopping arms these days, mean you would think if played there ( even without the greatest idea how/when to lead) he chould be able to stick a few marks and at least have a couple of shots on goal a game. I honestly believe kicking for goal for foreign players learning how to kick, should be a lot easier than pin point field kicking. They don't have to allow for players to run onto the ball or put it into space, just kick it bewteeen the big sticks. I used to play footy with a Portugese Imiigrant. First game, first kick, slotted it straight through the big ones. Mind you his field kicking was quite good too ( but so is Pyke's when he takes the kick). In both cases, it's handballing under pressure that creates problems.

O yeah, and Pyke laid a couple of good tackles on the weekend too, anyone notice them. He's getting less hesitant to go after the ball when its in dispute in the congestion around stoppages, good signs from the CANADIAN!

if you watched the richmond vs sydney match you would have known that he took a contested mark to give us the 35 point lead. Then ran in to kick his first AFL goal.

I've been really surprised by the rapid development of Pyke. His tap work TO ADVANTAGE is very good and his numbers stack up if you look at time on ground. His marking has been very good as well so I wouldn't doubt that he could make a useful permanent forward target, particularly as his pace is very good as well so unlikely to be run off by opposition defenders.

And what about the almost goal of the century on Sunday????

Let's keep an open mind on Mike as I'm sure the coaching staff are.

It's the progression. At first we were happy that he survived out there. Then we were happy he was doing his job. But quickly he's started to do more than his job. Next, at this rate, he'll be doing everything within the month.

Hanners is the feel-good story of the season but Pyke is setting up to be the surprise ending.

Spot on! admittedly he was starting from a low base line but we can see dramatic and continual improvement in a player whose personal size and ability is potentially awesome. This is not amazing ,this is normal sport lovers response to anybody who takes on a tough task in sport and begins to succeed.What surprises me is how you can NOT be impressed by this?
