It was 8 (or more?). Looked good.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Can't argue with that list, perhaps a little kind to McKaigue.

It was 8 and about 5 behinds. It was probably just an OK 8, rather than a great 8 because many of them he got through monstering his opponent rather than by doing the things he needs to do to have an impact at senior level. He also should have converted several of the ones he missed. One area he has improved in significantly in over the last two seasons is his set-shot kicking but there were a few lazy ones in there today. I suspect he would benefit from another game in the reserves before he gets back into the senior team. But with Goodes showing he hasn't forgotten how to be a midfielder (a handful of horrid kicks aside), I am not sure I want to sit through the pain again of Big Ted trying to be our only forward target over 6 ft tall.

Really don't know why they are reluctant to give Johnston a go. He won't do much as a stationary key forward but as a tall, mobile lead up HFFer I think he could contribute. His first half in the reserves today was very impressive, and after half-time I suspect he was just told to plonk himself in the goal square and not move in case they needed him to back up for the senior game. (None of the emergencies were rested after half-time.)

While McKaigue mightn't have been in the best group, I thought he played a good game - the best I've seen him play. Relative to what should be expected of him, he probably deserves his spot. He has certainly improved heaps since the start of the year.

Assuming he gets there where would McKaigue fit into the Seniors?

I'd agree with that, although I think 8.5 only being okay for a key forward is a bit harsh I'd prefer him to spend another week in the magoos at least, ideally, but I agree that our forward line in the seniors just looked far too small.

Edit: I agree on your opinions on Johnston, looked very good out there and would be good to slot in off a flank in seniors.

I love watching the ressie thrash the Canberra teams.

I think maybe one more week for Jets in the ressies.
Jessie kicked 8 ... could very well have a seat on the big bus, but who would you drop?

Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

                        That's harsh

At least McKaigue can hold his head up high & say he scored his own TV show in his 1st year

The frustrating thing about Jesse is that he is big enough and fast enough to monster any defender in any league. And I agree about the improvement in his set shots - he has the potential, lets see the fulfilment.

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Clearly Jetta didn't impress anyone other than the the foxtel commentators! Anyone at the game like to venture a view?

Jet's tries bloody hard ... I think his problem is that he tries to be a bit "too slick" at times ... I can't quite explain it ... maybe trying too hard for a 1% where there's no 1% to be had????

I also think that his tag of the "great black hope" (I'm an offender as well) has put an awful amount of pressure on the kid. Once he settles past that ...

                              Help me out someone!!!!

Ordinary first half, turned it on in the second. But I doubt Jetta is ever going to rip a game apart at this level. His intensity isn't consistent enough, and I reckon - even when he's bigger, stronger and fitter - he will turn it on in bursts when he feels like it. At the moment he doesn't quite know how to use his pace when he doesn't have the ball. With ball in hand he is scintillating. Without it he is laconic.
