    Akker a swan???

Considering our position on the ladder and forward problems if Akker was available on a short term contract for the rest of the year would you pick him up ? Could he improve our chances of playing in a GF in Roosy and Kirkys last year ?

Given he's still on contract with Dogs there's not much point in discussing it.

      Yep opportunity is gone.

I'd have loved to have got him instead of the dogs

No! He used to be a great player. But so was/is Fev.

It's not just the "no dickheads" policy (though that'd apply). But "Kirk out/Aker in" would be a disaster for the club culture.

It'd make taking Spida look like recruiting the Dalai Lama in terms of stability within the team.

Just take a look at all the recent mentions of teamwork, playing for each other, stepping up for the team... then take a look at Aker.

Bloody oath! I was thinking this last night actually....stick him next to braddy in the goalsquare for a year or 2.

I'd jump on him. Aker is a controversial figure, but he's a harmless one. He's not like Fev, getting smashed and ruining his life with gambling, that sort of thing. He has also, if I'm not mistaken, been very active with charities and that sort of thing. I also think he has been dealt a very, very rough hand by the Doggies. They haven't handled him at all well.

I've never had a problem with Aker's on field attitude. Yes, sometimes he might bite off more than he can chew, do something a little bit selfish, that sort of thing, he's a show pony, it's true. So is Goodes. They only genuine negative about Aker is his tendency towards being outspoken and controversial in the media. In Sydney that would be far less of a problem, and would actually drum up a bit more interest.

This is all purely speculative, of course. But we traded Hall to the Doggies after he quit/was sacked midway through the season. No reason they can't return the favour, right? Worth looking into, I reckon. If I had to put money on it, however, I'd say he's headed to the Gold Coast, if he keeps playing at all.

                    A resounding No.
I think he is well past his prime.

I like Aker as a player and even as (an entertaining) individual, but I wouldn't want him anywhere near the Swans. Not even Aker five years younger. Drama follows him and eventually his teammates get p---ed off.

Leigh Matthews reckons Aker is not even in the Doggies' best 22.

Leigh wouldn't be blinkered in his thinking, would he?

I agree with BSA5, apart from the bit about playing next year - I'd be absolutely staggered if anyone takes him on.

I would have taken him when he left the Lions, but it's too late now.

Who would he replace in our current side? The answer is Moore or McGlynn.

Would he improve the side by replacing one of the above? The answer is a resounding no. His form this year has been poor to say the least and he is a shadow of his former, great self.

As for a move to the Suns, Bluey McKenna has already ruled it out in no uncertain terms.

Aker will stay in Melbourne as a prominent media figure, a position for which he has undoubted talent.
And the man who started it all, the Schneiderman . . . . .
