I know he'll be gone in a few weeks but while Roos is still head coach he's still responsible for motivating the side, for the sake of the younger players in the team as much as his own legacy.

We need to go into next week's game with the same attitude we took into the games against the Cats and Saints at home towards the end of last year. We have worked so hard to earn the respect of the footballing world over the past few years - other teams talk about how we are always a tough side to play and how we are a hardened finals team - I would hate for this respect to be thrown away.
actually i and quite a lot of others thought something like this was on. carlton were unbelievably poor and melbourne came back from nearly 50 points down to almost beat a team which most people on here think will beat us by 6 goals over there

In Roos' shoes I'm not sure I could've mustered the energy to make it out to the ground. I reckon I would have just bawled out "You're all a mob of jokes" from the dug-out and got back to my crossword.

Bailey was quoted in the paper that their first quarters are their worst and this week they were determined to turn that around. They clearly didn't pick that one up in Sydney.

Yep fair point, was more surprised by the magnitude - maybe I am spoilt but you just do not expect a Sydney team to get beaten by 12 goals... it's been practically unheard of in the last few years.

The most dissappointing thing about today was the massive difference in effort and the fact all our good on ballers got smashed, McVeigh, ROK, Mumford, Bolton, Kirky all played shocking footy today. Kenelly and Shaw ( I would put Mattner in too, btu at least he had a crack) gave us nothing out of defence.
Goodes, Jack, White,Mal can be excused as can Hanners, Jetta and McGlynn.

We were outplayed by a better team - fact. Melbourne were hot and used the Pies pressure game plan, chase and tackle. We need to have a solution for this style and pressure. *(2011 coaches take note) Their arm were higher than our tacklers and they were able to dispose of the ball to advantage better. When we get the ball and use the 3 - 7 handballs to try and get a free player works against some teams. Didn't work today! Their game plan of grabbing and kicking deep into the forwards worked better.. More pace. (Ranga..)

The fact that our reserves team is not up to AFL standard is out and all other clubs are now aware of our lack of depth. We have been getting away with it for a while.. Nearly half of the our team today was in the reserves at the start of the year of should have been... We are developing and will have to take the good with the bad. Today was a bad (very bad) performance. I hope that they all learn something. Add Craig Bolton, LRT, Seaby, Smith (been solid all year and therefore in or close to our best 22) Bird and Bradshaw to our team and we have a stronger line up.

Paul Roos has not been at his best this year as a coach, a 12 months farewell is a long time, perhaps to long? I would hope that he is not tanking so Horse will look good next year.. (Thanks for the 2005 flag)

We are a middle of the pack team this year and will need luck and 110% effort to influence this years finals. More class players onto the paddock.

Roosy indicated that we just forget about this game. Good plan. We are training a lot of younger players to be bloods. Time to bleed a little and today was a lot

Actually, I had to get the kids to a birthday party, then called in at a friend's to pick up the takings and my esky/BBQ tools etc for a not for profit mob that I am involved with who had done a fundraiser on Saturday. I checked the scores quickly when I ducked back in at home (very little had changed). By that time I had to leave again so that I had time to pick up a few things at the corner shop before they close (at an un-nominated and random time each Sunday) before getting to the other side of town again to collect the kids.

I heard a grab of the Roos press conference on the radio this morning. Mentioned that he is considering not speaking to the players at all during matches. Clearly a tongue in cheek remark, but also the "it's not my fault if they don't respond to what I have to say" remains consistent with his general approach and overall arrogance.

As for the Stynes love, didn't they show a Roos/Kirk interview at half time? I wanted to watch that to see if they kissed. Did anyone see it?

Agree.Carlton's performance was total crap. Our reserves could have come closer to us last week.Melbourne on the other hand have played brilliantly on occassions. This was never going to be easy.

To me it's all about winning the flag down the track there doesn't seem to be enough emphasis on that and only what well known names seem to look good in the team selection on paper week to week.
This season is shot we are not likely to beat most teams we meet in the next few weeks and in the finals it's time to play some kids.
Someone on RWO said what if we play the kids and we get thrashed........well we played the experienced players and we got smashed by Melbourne
Most of what you say is just plain common sense and I have thought for some time that we are more likely to get thrashed by NOT playing the kids! Why have we not done this? I think the Swans management really believe that we cannot bottom out and a mediocre finish in the finals is still better than no Finals at all.I actually agree with this but believe we can play the kids as well as have a Finals appearance.Secondly Roosey is in his final year and his heart doesn't seem to be quite in it anymore. Maybe he wants to go out with the boys that made his career so famous? This year was a golden opportunity to get game time into young players so we get their yips over before next season. One wonders if Bolton had not been injured would have Smith got a game? Agree with your sentiments

Smith was playing in the game where Bolton got injured. He took over marking Le Cras (no pun intended)
