    Roos: Players are "switching off"

Here's a possible reason from Roos for the debacle against Melbourne last week:

Paul Roos reminds faltering Sydney that his replacement is watching | The Australian

What doesn't make sense is why they'd be switching off at this time of year. We have a finals place to play for - or at least we certainly did before last Sunday. Don't the players want to be part of it? Surely they must?

Whatever the reason, I hope I never see another performance like that - ever.

By saying they "switched off" there is an implication that at some point on Sunday the players were "switched on." Any guesses as to when that might have been? I'm pretty sure it wasn't between 2pm and 5pm...

It looked like they were on standby or energy saver.

Maybe they were affected by the frayed wires we have on our Train system.

Would a cattle prod work this weekend?

I think for the good of all concerned a coach who thinks its time to retire should do it straight away. The "testimonial" year never seems to work for anyone as I hope Collingwood will find out next year

I think the more alarming quote is that Roos thinks we are a "reasonably quick side", he must be delusional

Glad I'm not the only one feeling the end of term vibe.

The disparity between the games I saw live against Carlton and the against Melbourne a week later were not changed by the (head) coach...

Our skills, decisoin making, confidence and effort were way down.

For us to be in the 8, with where we are as a list, with the key injuries we have had I think Roo's has done an outstanding job, and I don't think his endeavour or planning can or should be questioned at this point.

You call out for PLAY THE YOUTH! 33 players used this year I think, and where are we? Calling for his immediate resignation. GET SOME SPEED, so we recruit Jetta and Rohan. What more do you people want?

Are we Essendon supporters? Adelaide suporters? Get some perspective, patience and open the other eye.

I don't disagree with you but for Roosy to make that comment in the Australian he obviously feels it may be an issue with some of the players. Making the veiled threat that Longmire is watching from above shows that in his mind it is a definite issue.

In any situation where a coach or leader of any description announces his future retirement there are players that will "Take a break" until the next Leader takes over.

As he said, you have to be an idiot in such a cut throat profession.

IMO the players switching off is indicative of what the coach has done since he announced his pending retirement.

Do you mean his most aggressive recruiting ever - and more experimenting with players and where they play?

I think is getting closer to the truth.
