And Then There Was The Aftermatch!

It was a good day all over.

The AfterMatch was a cracker, with the venue in the already set up Indoor Cricket Venue. Same setup, same way too high podium etc. It was seasoned with another big Red crowd, a fair amount of alcholic consumption, Peter Everett in charge (turned out nice that man, good convener), and a whole lot of rock and roll.

Interviewed Gary Rohan (kicked 6) and Lewis Johnston (dnp) and they are coming along nicely as personalities. I found it highly amusing that Lewis was NOT happy with the outcome of the game against Queanbeyan (we lost), it almost looked like a personal insult. I think I could assume that LJ is a seriously competitive kid. Nice looking kid too, his hair has become a bit more style than riot. Apparantly Gaz can bust a move on the dance floor, but declined to elaborate or demonstrate.

I would like to pause here to acknowledge ORB for collecting me on my trip back from the toot (more than acceptable number of stalls, you know why I mention that ladies), saying he had saved me a seat (a rare a precious thing) which actually meant he gave up his for me and sat on the floor. Mightily appreciated I can tell you. Front row possie.

We had a fair bit of hiatus, filled up with belted out tunes from our prior Acknowledgement entertainers, where singing along, our versions of it, was in order, including music from close to my vintage, which means she and her guitarist took one look at us and thought back back back, Way back. Great fun, compounded by an about 4yo who danced his legs off, with co-ordinated moves which included arms, wiggle of hips, side slides, you get the picture.

All of the players came back for the celebration. Somehow they fitted on the dias. Most of them looked exhausted. Lots of pushing reluctants to the front row. We sang Happy Birthday for Marty.

Big fuss made of Ben McGlynne, who was told to stand up straight by Spider.....there really is not that much of him. Picture this Benny and Spider. Deflected attention away from himself, all about the team.

And of course Lewis and his Goal. He got a massive cheer from us, and there was an awful lot of laughter on stage as the boys showed their approval. He said he was filthy the first goal was after the siren. Spida chipped him about his choice of kick for "the" goal being an inside out banana as not being the safest choice, but he said that all the safe kicks had let him down, so why not. Big cheer from all of us (way up in the hundreds I would say). He is happy the monkey is off his back, and is predicting big things re goals for the future. Not exactly the most modest of our mob, but a lot of fun and I would think a joy to be around, he is just that sort of shy but big personality.

It was really nice sitting in the front row and watching the eyes of the Swans sweep over the room, big grins on their faces. They appreciated the upclose and personal moment as much as we did.

Note to management: This should be kept as an annual event, an aftermatch at the SCG in that venue, after Acknowledgement Round. Not a bad name for it. Larissa! Make the suggestion at your next meeting.

      My take....

Anybody who has attended an aftermatch in Melbourne would have been very underwhelmed by yesterdays aftermatch.

I'll agree the venue was good and Spida does a fine job.
Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09

This. Especially as I had to miss it (partner'd better appreciate that this did not result in threats of divorce).
