Just as people power led to the appointment of Paul Roos as Coach I believe in the same way people power can ensure that if we are successful in gaining a home final that it is played at the SCG and not ANZ. Whilst I realise that there are contractual arrangements in place with ANZ Stadium it is simply not our home ground so we lose any benefit of a home final. No team wants to play the Swans at the SCG so why would we gift our opponents an advantage. I'm sure that there are financial implications but surely this can be compensated by the fact that the SCG would be a sellout versus a possible crowd of 20,000 people at ANZ?

The 2005 SF was played at the SCG despite the contract - because it suited the AFL - so the contract definitely has loopholes -
Hmmm, I'm pretty sure it was because they caved (with some compensation, I believe) to the demands of the leaguies who wanted their finals games out there, not because it suited the AFL.

i think the 19,000 crowd was a one-off. mind you the atmosphere was awesome as it was mostly die-hards. i'd like to see it at the scg and for there to be a bit of pressure on tickets so that they become hot property, but if we win this week and it's promoted properly there is no reason why homebush can't be a success.then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i knowComment

Only loophole is clash of booking. Due to 6-7 day breaks for all clubs that weekend, we had to go the Friday night, but the Wests Tigers under the NRL McIntyre Finals System had to also play that night, so the ANZ reluctantly released us from the contract (would have killed them to do it, our SCG crowd was higher than the Tigers ANZ crowd).
There is nothing planned at ANZ Week 1 finals, so our home final will be there without question.Comment

A few things.
1. 2005 was an anomoly. Essentially the stadium released the AFL from the contract as they had a scheduling clash with the NRL.
2. 2008 was also an anomoly. As I recall, it was pissing down rain all week, no one bothered promoting the game, and North Melbourne are about as good as attracting a crowd as... well something that doesn't attract a crowd anyway. The previous finals numbers at Homebush were: 71k, 40k (vs WCE, on another wet day), 61k - so the appallingly low 19k for that single match can't be blamed solely on the venue.
3. The AFL controls the scheduling and takes the gate for finals. They don't care.
4. I think we've actually had an overall winning record at Homebush, however in recent times our ordinary form and the tendency to play the "big" teams there may have skewed the winning percentage.
If we play well and the game is promoted well, the crowds will come, and we will do just fine.

We were against North Melbourne who have a small fan base, the weather was AWFUL (I knew some half assed fans who had bought tickets and didn't bother going) and the AFL seemed to think Swans + Finals = Crowds, so didn't promote it well enough and didn't set fair pricing either. I hate ANZ, but I agree with you, with the right promotion and right opponent (Freo out there might be a problem despite 2006 Prelim) we should get 40-50 pretty easily.Comment

I'd love it to be played at the SCG but there is absolutely NO CHANCE of that happening.
It'll be a very different scenario this year though to two years ago. Best guess is we'll play Carlton and the AFL will certainly ramp up the promos for it.
Add to that our recent form, Carltons following and I reckon we're a chance of getting somewhere in the vicinity of 60,000.Comment

Maybe we could get Rodney Eade to do a ground report at ANZ and deem the ground unsuitable for AFL.Comment
