    Columbo - Peter Faulks

I was very disappointed when he was given the spear despite being one of our 2008 ressie grand final heroes. A sly read of Inside Footy in the newsagent today revealed that he is the premier fullback in the VFL this year and likely to be re drafted. Good luck to him.

Our club has been lauded recently for clever drafting and trading, but perhaps got they got it wrong by dumping Faulks but keeping duds like Barlow, Playfair & co.

Has anybody seen him go round with Willy this year?

Weren't there some issues with him? non talent related? I seem to remember some dramas.

But we didn't dump him. According to this article we offered him a position on the rookie list and he chose to return to Melbourne to play in the VFL. Still, I hear you. Every club will probably have one that has slipped through their fingers reimerging in the AFL over the next couple of years.

Don't think so. Thornton, Faulks and Aaron Bruce all took part in pre-season training end of 08/beginning of 09, and it looks like it was for that one rookie spot that eventually went to Thornton. A few former rookies have been going well in the state leagues since being cut - James Wall, Jon Simpkin, Simon Phillips, Sam Rowe.

I also had a quick flick through this week's Inside Footy, didn't see that section ORB, but I caught the section about trade baits and apparently Nick Smith (along with MOD) is our trade bait, because he hasn't been getting enough games. Hmm...

Yeah, the ignorance of the Victorian media re anything to do with the Swans is a given. The article on Columbo was up the back in the VFL section.

If he had stayed at the Swans he wouldn't have got a game in the seniors this year anyway - our back half is overflowing with players. So arguably better for his development to have been playing in the VFL.

              Over my dead body....
and with Faulkes, my opinion then and I have no idea about now, is that his talent got him just so far, and there he stayed....just didn't get any better....good luck to him.

Who ever wrote that article has his head halfway up his buttoon. Why would the SWans want to trade Nick Smith? MOD is a different story but only if he wants to leave.

Offering him a spot on the rookie list was still sort of dumping him.

Ooh, I dunno, isn't that how Brett Kirk sneaked in?
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Faulks problem was that he refused to play without the trenchcoat.

Smith is in our 22..no doubt. We trade him, we need a BETTER 10 year player, and there ain't too many out there!
