Different point. Colombo was only ever our senior list, and was delisted. These 3 were rookie drafted, and then in the fullness of time promoted to the senior list. The Kirk analogy, however, is closer to valid.

FWIW, Colombo was in the best players in Canberra almost every week in his final year at the club... which is no mean feat, playing in the backlines. Given that the best players in the 2s are selected by the club, his dumping cannot have been for solely footy-related reasons.

Good to see Sam Rowe's name mentioned earlier in this thread. Rowe is a star of the SANFL, and if GC (or any of the other 17 clubs including GWS) have their wits about them in terms of identifying mature talent, he'd have to be a monty to get at least another rookie contract somewhere. I'm not saying he's a Wayne Carey or a Buddy Franklin, but he's really got everything you'd want from a 196cm, 95kg KPP player: fast enough without being super-express, good tank, uses body well, very good hands, pretty reliable kick for goal, and will do the team stuff for you all day. Plays better, more consistently now than Jesse White, for sure, but to be fair White will always have the edge for athleticism, and Rowe would be 2 or so years more experienced which means White has more upside. White can also play ruck at a pinch, which Rowe is too short to do at AFL level.

            They're the same height.

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

By the clubs own admission, Sam Rowe was a clear BOG in the 2006 Ressies GF, even though Bevo won the 'Whatever Medal' for the Canberra equivalent of the Norm Smith. Playing at CHB, he kept Belconnen's at the time gun Steve Maher almost kickless.

I was surprised when he was let go shortly afterwards.

A few former rookies have been going well in the state leagues since being cut - James Wall, Jon Simpkin, Simon Phillips, Sam Rowe.

I also had a quick flick through this week's Inside Footy, didn't see that section ORB, but I caught the section about trade baits and apparently Nick Smith (along with MOD) is our trade bait, because he hasn't been getting enough games. Hmm...

Offering Faulks a demotion to the rookie list had nothing to do wiht football ability.

He had a poor attitude and didn't work anywhere near hard enough on a lot of areas (ie he thought he was good enough to make it without doing the hard yards).

I have seen him a play a bit this year as a relative of mine is in the coaching ranks at Willy.

From what I hear he has all the talent but still has issues with accepting authority and can let his attitiude get in the way.

I didn't think he did plateau. In his first year on the list he looked like he wasn't overly interested in becoming an AFL player but his improvement in his second year was huge, to the point I was quite surprised he was cut. That is purely based on watching him play. I had no information re training or attitude. He was still very skinny, mind, so was probably still a way away from senior footy.
