Sounds as gregarious as his father - looks different but personalities appear to be in tune. And that's an official whoohoo from me.
Tom Mitchell to the Swans!

Perhaps liz, but I can't recall ever having more than 4 scholarship players in the one match day squad when we had more than 4 available.Comment

This is pretty exciting, and just reading that article he seems to be really know what's required to make it at the Swans.Comment

Yeah. And he is after all the son of the bloke who took the time to train/mentor Paul Kelly when this sort of thing wasn't the go. Something has got to rub off in the gene pool here. That's probably why some of us were truly excited at the prospect of having Junior in the team.If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

since he is tied up now, if I was making the decisions at the Swans, I would be inclined to have him complete his normal u/18's Nationals and whatever his club committments are in WA, and just have him "in and around" the club as much as practical.
They know what they are getting, and in general, if he is playing in the WAFL after the Nationals, he will be getting better quality football there than the ressies get over here (possible exception when they play the 3 AFL sides magoos).
There are bound to be some rules around all this too, but they might still be making them up with the new structure of the NEAFL ...?Comment

Whether playing or training, he is under their instruction, and having spent a lot of time in Sydney, he already has a head start on most interstate recruits his age. With these kids it is not about playing, more so becoming accustomed to the club, players, coaches and lifestyle in Sydney - really, the ressies are there to develop the kids who are already on the list, or in the academy, who don't have access to a better comp. Besides, he is still only a kid ... no need to rush him ... we will still get a few more years out of old man Hannebery before Tom has to take over from him
By all means, bring him over as often as possible, live and train with the club, but playing him in the ressies in not going to make much of a difference.Last edited by unconfuseme; 22 December 2010, 08:37 PM.Comment

Well we've missed out on Joe Daniher, would've been nice to snag 2 super promising father-son's in quick succession.... oh well
Ed Considine's day out - Round 3, 16th April 1995.
11 Kicks, 13 Handballs, 8 Marks, 1 Goal, 1 Behind, 1 Tackle, 1 Hitout, 3 Brownlow votes (his only votes)

Its about time we let go of this Daniher connection and let SNDon believe they've snared a superstar. Darcy has done stuff all in the 3 years he's been on their list, and there is no reason to expect Joe to be any different.Comment

Wouldn't have expected him to do any different considering the Dons were most probably the club he's supported his whole life, his brother is already a part of the squad and his family lives in Melbourne. Sydney would have had to put up a very compelling case for him to choose otherwise.
A bit unfair on Darcy Dr. J if you take into account his injuries over the years and there is also the point that Joe by comparison, is much higher rated than Darcy as a junior.
Personally I'm not too fussed. Our young KPP stocks aren't too bad. Anyway who cares about Joe in a couple of years when we've got Tom Mitchell to look forward to in the next draft.Comment

Some strange comments over there at that "other site" from Essendon fans. They seem to think they've got one up on us and they've pissed us off, but I never thought we were a realistic chance of getting Daniher to Sydney anyway?
P.S. Mitchell will be betterLast edited by DeadlyAkkuret; 31 December 2010, 02:56 PM.Comment
