Don't discount what he is being asked to do - be a b ig body, take some of the hard stuff, protect the smaller more accurate forwards, provide contest. He is what you could call a Defensive Forward. The rest of it will come, and it might well be "one day", but in the mean time he rides shotgun, and that is his job in this team.

Those ratings were hardly reflective- our players were marked very harshly, while Carlton had far higher numbers, and on that basis you would have expected Carlton to have given us a belting.

He would have done one of those yesterday, except that the ball dropped to him and he had to shrug off some unwelcome attentions from a defender to mark.

Can anyone tell me what happened to his mark in the goalsquare in Q4? Around at 106 it looked like he marked and it was knocked out of his hands. But it was given as a behind. Did he mark or not?

From 117 it looked like a clean mark that was smacked out of his hands, I and everyone around me thought Jesse should have been paid it.

The traditional full forward who leads, marks and kicks the goal is , as always, a rare and brilliant find.

To believe that White is not doing the job demanded by his coaches because he does not fit that image is unfair. Granted, he LOOKS as if that would be his role, but it clearly does not suit his style and talents... YET!
The man is only 22 years old, and lugging around 106kg.
HE brings others into the game, his handballing is quite remarkable for a man his size in close. And he finds a man. His work yesterday was excellent, giving away a couple of goals to team mates in desperate circumstances.
I suspect he would be in quite good standing with the swans coaching staff...Much more to be heard of White J.

Even over at BigFooty they were saying Jesse's first finals performance was better in all key stats than Wayne Carey's - at the same age. Now that'd be nice.

Beg to differ, 1st quarter against the doggies, chest mark on the lead from Shaw, tight angle, straight through the middle.

Is manned up with a man 20 metres in front of him most of the time, has the exciting combination of young midfielders that need to steady themselves and hit up targets instead of pinging/bombing away and experienced midfielders who know to do that but don't have the leg speed to get clear enough to give quality delivery. Tough gig.

Little doubt in my mind there was a team rule for the key forward that was the last man bag to not lead beyond the HFF in set situations. If you don't think the coaches go to that level, I assure you they do. Why? Ball spilled deep better than ball spilled in the middle of the ground, similar to hugging the boundary line because you don't want a turnover in the middle. Bombed on top of your head is a tough get for a forward, we were spoilt for years with Baz being exceptional at it.

Put his body on the line to wear some contact he clearly knew was coming so he could get the ball out to a teammate in good position. Good game from him.

I don't usually think much of him, although wouldn't bag him but yesterday he had a great game with at least two assists that led directly to goals. If he had Braddy next to him every game then he'd have kicked more this season I reckon.

When Hanners put that shot from 50 out of bounds right near the end of the game there was a mass of space in the pocket on that side of the ground, Jesse had started push and shove on his opponent getting ready to lead then J McV floated down into the space with his man following. A minor thing, and we've done well from the big spread of goal kickers this year- but it makes you wonder if the forward coaching staff are watching- if they are I assume that's simply the game plan.

Jesse has to hold his spot. He was great yesterday and I think is really growing in confidence in terms of what damage he can do, and be prepared to do it, in the forward line. He and TDL seem to have a great connection. I keep thinking back to that awesome punch agst the dogs smack to TDL for a goal.
Be good to see Jessie with a bit more room to play.
